Hey everyone! Sorry I haven't introduced myself sooner but I moved from Eugene Oregon to SLC about 3 months ago. I moved right as hunting season was starting to ramp-up so I've been pretty one-track minded. Now that it's over I'd like to get to know some people in the area. I am one of the biggest fly fishing nerds you'll probably ever meet, so if anyone ever wants to get together to fish let me know -- I left my drift boat in Oregon since I'm going back next year, but if you have one or a raft I can row you. I know the weather is about to change, but in Oregon our main fishing seasons are during the dead of winter so let's get after it! Obviously I like truck shit, too, and can turn a wrench. Send me a PM or just reach out however. This place is pretty neat except for how hot it's been!

Welcome to Utah! first things first....tell all your friends and family that it's already full here and we have no space for anyone else.

It's been a hot summer for even us seasoned Utahns. and the fire season has been insane. but you get used to it. wait till winter, then you'll be pining for the summer months. Utah has its quirks but I can't seem to get away from the accessible outdoors here. :D

Haha we say the same thing for everyone wanting to move to the PNW.

I was hunting up in the Cache mountains and the wildfire smoke was pretty thick last weekend. I hear the air can get pretty stagnant around here in winter time.

Yeah, it's called inversion. the air gets trapped pretty good in the valley. you'll see it. It can get pretty bad on occasion to the point of very very low visibility. It's one of the reasons why there's a push for cleaner air here.

Welcome to Ut! Fall fly fishing in the state is pretty enjoyable. Winter fishing is nice because the weather scares everyone away and you can actually get some solitude. Some good shops to check out are either Western Rivers or Fishtech here in the valley or Fish Heads in Heber. The Green River in the northeastern corner of the state has some incredible fishing to be had from a drift boat, everything else in the state is pretty walk-in accessible. Going back up to Oregon permanently next year or just to pick the boat up? And yeah, tell everyone states all full just like ya would up in the PNW

Greetings Utahns, I will have the luxury of having my truck in Ogden from the 14th-25th of October. Doing a job up there from TX. I will have a couple days off to explore.
Hoping someone can point me to a scenic, relatively low end, intermediate at most 4x4 trail around the Ogden/SLC area.
Don't want anything too challenging because I'll be 1300 miles from home and will need to you know, drive back. No room for trail mishaps.

I was up there in July on a job and I fell in love with the place even though it was hotter in Utah than it was in TX at the time
I got to spend my bday with a bbq at Pineview Reservoir. I did not have my truck with me during that trip so I was at the mercy of the boss.

Also anyone recommend a good shooting range? Indoor or outdoor, no matter.

Funny how the "don't move here we have too many people already" is a sentiment shared by a great many cities and indeed some entire states these days. Something to do with people leaving certain cities/states with less than favorable government policies, yet cluelessly voting for those same policies in the new place that they moved to specifically for the reason of escaping those policies, wouldn't you say? ;)

    Thanks in advance.

Welcome, just dont stay too long ;)

4x4 trails up near you that come to mind are farmington canyon. Of you have a free weekend, you could run the pony express and explore the old mines all over. Gravel roads for the most part but a lot to see.

Theres some milder stuff in American fork canyon too, bjt its getting close to gate closing season so Im bot sure how much longer itll stay open

If you fancy playing around in dunes, etc, Knolls OHV area is alwahs a blast to play in. Dry lake beds, sand dunes, tons of fun.

Indoor range, Id recommend the get some ranges arent bad, TNT in Murray is good too.

Im booked up the next couple weekends or Id offer to show you around.

Speaking of American Fork, it was so good yesterday. Except where a minivan put me into the shoulder in a narrow spot. Totally oblivious, but nothing a 4x4 cant handle.

Lots of BWO’s in April-May across the state. This time of year seems like everyone has success on terrestrials. Fly fish food is another good one for sure. Western Rivers has a lot of info on the green, guided trips, and rental options. Enjoy it while you’re here!

Dude. It's absolutely nutty up there. Last time I was there (like 2 weeks ago) there was a full size rv towing a jeep going up the narrow part of alpine loop past salamander flats ... Couple that with all the crazies trying to take portraits with the colors and it was a madhouse.

November would be a good time to do Marry Ellen Gulch. We had a good turnout last year. I think it was in November. It may have been late October. Nonetheless, it would be good.

Spent last weekend with Expedition Utah at the Overland Skills Camp. It was pretty epic! Met some of the people from Cruiser Outfitters. They were all cool. All the instructors were awesome, as well as the participants.

I would definitely do it again. The trail rides were most excellent.

Has anyone found a convenient way to stow their camp stove? I’ve been using a Rubbermaid box, but it’s too damn big for one person.

I haven’t been able to find a box sized to fit the stove. They are either too small or too damn big.

Also, I’m going to throw this out once more. Is anyone thinking they might do ROCKtober this year?

I would like to do Top of the World, maybe Poison Spider and something else.

I’ve heard there might some Jeep run the same time, so might be too busy.
