Yes to both. Pharmacy should have a bottle of saline and an irrigation syringe.
Syringe looks like this (doesn’t have to be curved, they come in straight too):

Insert into water/saline, draw up to fill, aim at wound, spray. Repeat. Use lots. Cover with a bandage. Keep an eye on it. If redness/swelling/heat etc keep spreading, then you should go get checked out.

Wound has been flushed with moonshine style saline and doused with neosporine. Finally, chased with some Four Roses Single Barrel, which I luv.

Life is good.

Hey man, sorry to hear that its been giving you a hard time. anytime I've worked with patients who have anterior approach hip surgery (im assuming arthroplasty, or debridement) we always tell them to wear some pretty loose fitting sweats or gym shorts to prevent rubbing. when the wound dehisces (opens up) that becomes a pretty big issue especially in groin area as your skin folds over in that area which makes it much more prone to infection (nature of the beast with that area). I would for sure do everything that has been said but pay really close attention to it and try to keep it dry after irrigation, and change dressings very often. I would give it a day or two at most and if things dont improve go and get it looked at, with an arthroplasty you run the risk of sepsis which degrades the joint spacer and it becomes a pretty gnarly issue quickly (currently rehabbing a patient with that issue).

I had a torn labrum repaired and the head of my femur rounded out with some arthritis cleaned up. Hip replacement in my future.

I think I’m good. Just have to make it to Tuesday for my four week post op. It’s feeling reasonably well since I smashed it with my homemade saline. Thanks to all the input. TW rules.

 

Anyone in Provo/SLC? I'm going there for business end of Feb for 2 weeks. Any good spots to eat and chill? Sadly won't be there with my Taco but if there are cool peepz around for a slice and a brew I'm down.

There will be a lot of downtime boredom... I'll have my laptop with me too for TSBs and OVTunes. (3rd Gens)

 

Provo...the heart of utah county doesn't have too much int he way of brews and watering holes. Salt Lake valley is gonna be your go to for that. plenty of great bars for some good drinks.

 

I know Provo is kinda lame, SLC is better for that stuff for sure... let's see what happens... I'll also be in Provo for work so I cant party tooo much...

 

Ill be around. Provo may not have many brews, but a lot of good places to eat and occupy yourself being a college town.

Edit: though the coof may put a damper on a lot of those.

 

I'm sure I speak for both @Gunshot-6A and myself when we say we'd be happy to hit up a bar somewhere in slc.

 

Fck yeah... I’m in California... can’t even go to a bar. Would be nice to grab a brew talk trucks or whatever.

Moab's great for biking and crawling. Next door in Arches National Park there's months worth of hiking trails, all sorts of lengths and difficulties. You'll have a great time on your trip.
