Yeah, no kidding. Remington went tits up. I don’t think they’re making them anymore and still a big demand for them, or so I’m told.

They got dissolved in bankruptcy, but there were bidders on the various segments. Palmetto State Armory ended up with a lot of the spoils. Federal got the ammo group which they excel at. Ruger taking over Marlin will be a good thing as well.

No idea what will come of the venerable 700 and 870 series, but I know Savage, Mossberg and Winchester are loving the outcome with their product lines.

If you want a 700 pattern rifle, I'd steer to Bergara, but have no idea what a comparable 870 clone is, other than point to a mossberg 500 or 590.

I have an 870 as well. Bought it for $350 and it's worth well over double that now but I have no intention of selling it. It's my favorite shotgun I own and love shooting clays with it.

I had no idea. Last year I got a hand me down Model 700 .30-06 my pops bought new in the 1980s, put in a gun safe and there it sat for decades. I had no trouble getting the trigger recall done.

If you're rocking a pre-freedom group (pre-07) Remmy, that thing is worth some money. Post Freedom group QC really took a nose dive and was in part to blame for Remington's demise.

Is Federal still the cheap & dirty option? All I can think when I see that name is how much longer it takes to clean my barrel after.

Federal hasn't been the cheap and dirty for some time. They're the good stuff.

Winchester White Box or UMC is the one you seek if you're looking to get good at malfunction drills and cleaning.

I have no qualms about buying Federal for any of my firearms. :) In fact, I almost prefer it now if I can find them at a good price.

Any suggestions for places to camp around Zion this weekend? I’m thinking I’m gonna head down early Saturday, spend the day in the park and then camp Saturday night and head back mid-day Sunday

I think I paid around $200 for my black on black synthetic in circa 2003. Killed a lot of waterfowl and skeets with that thing and it just keeps on keepin on.

My pops has an unfired NIB 870 he purchased for 70 bucks in the late 70s early 80s.

I am rather fond of their American Eagle line. It is the only thing we shoot on the range at work. It runs consistently and reliably through my glock and other various pew pews.
