Looking at Utah more and more. Top 3 cities to look into? any to avoid? Don't want to live in the city but willing to commute within 45 min as I work in healthcare. Curious to hear some real world feedback, and no I certainly would not be bringing any of California's f'd up ideologies with me.

Having just moved from Nashville, I swore I’d never live in a big city... but being in salt lake is not bad at all. I’m down in Sandy and it’s nice. I’m not the best to ask for areas to look, but from what I was told when moving, I’d look in the circled area

Obligatory: *looks at Cali location tag* Sorry, we're full. :D

Now that that joke's out of the way. All of Utah is better than most of the greater LA area.

Southern Utah is prob more familiar to your current surroundings of Ridgecrest. Northern Utah is more city/suburb and high desert/alpine, kinda like IE but way better

Utah really only has like 4 cities. Ogden, SLC, Provo, and St George.

Ogden is a little rougher and heavily in the defense contractor job market due to the AFB there. Bout 35-1hr north of SLC.

SLC is pretty diverse and has career prospects for everyone.

Provo is really growing up lately, and a lot of tech companies are popping up between there and Lehi.

St George is an up and comer. Mixed bag of jobs, sorta similar to Palm Springs or something. Lotta snowbirds and retirees, and a lot of jobs to support the surrounding tourism industry.

Biggest hurdle is going to be housing. The market here is en fuego, and more real estate agents than houses for sale. Bring a dump truck of cash if you wanna buy anytime soon.

Turing 30 in a few weeks. kids maybe someday. Done with apartments. A red county/region preferably with a nice yard, and/or even a acre or two for a shop for the Tacoma and toys or even a nice a cul de sac.

In that case, bring an even bigger dump truck. Unless you don't mind living in the relative boonies (not a bad thing). Maybe Logan area, or south Spanish Fork/ Payson.

Utah is pretty red/conservative as a state, though the city portion of SLC certainly is more progressive as urban areas tend to be.

While not a shop, lots of houses in Utah have a side RV/trailer pad because people out here love their toys. Might be a reasonable compromise depending on the sum of your wants/needs.

Yeah. the circled area is probably where the nicer parts of town are. You'll find some good places up north of the 80/east of 15. But it can get pricey pretty quickly. But also hit and miss. :) Sandy is generally a pretty good area to be in.

    ^^ very good questions.

Yeah...SLC is not really "red county". They're consistently blue. Outside of the Salt Lake Valley (Salt Lake County), you'll have to go down to like Utah County or way up North of North Salt Lake. It's quickly urbanizing here, so keep an eye out for that.

Yes Ive been through St George on my way to Zion, Moab ect in the past. Been to Utah about 5-6 times as its only a 6 hour drive from my current spot near death valley. . It is very similar to the high desert I am at like you mentioned, but things like half off gas prices are nice! lol However Ive never ventured North towards SLC, I don't "mind" the city, but just dont want to be downtown

Prices are getting that bad huh? as bad as CA & NY? or is it more regionalized? For example I bought a beautiful home in the high desert which was only 200k and it is great, that same house/lot would be probably 750-800k in socal. I would actually prefer to live out of town a bit and could easily justify an hour commute if the location was right.

check out the Utah County area. Although, it's very hgih concentration of mormons so there is that you will notice. Sandy still sounds like a good place for you though.

Yeah, plenty of areas in "SLC" or Salt Lake Valley more appropriately, that aren't anywhere close to "Downtown". Even then, SLC is more of an urbanized area like IE rather than the heart of DTLA.

SLC and Provo prices are def rocketing up, but aren't anywhere near CA prices. Which is sorta the issue because a lot of folks are coming from CA with a pocket full of cash from a sale, and outbidding locals that are selling their old house for 1/2 the return of a CA house.

I'd say a "nice" house based on your prior description in the Sandy area is prob 400+ right now. I have no idea what a house goes for in growing areas like Herriman or Daybreak.

Yeah...Daybreak...because you want to be in an "irvine, CA" style HOA. ha!

It's more the fact that the lca tabs are jacked up from being long travel and offroading. It is mainly for long travel guys. I wouldn't do this for a stock setup.

I have been long traveled for 10+ years. I already have lca cam tabs from chaos. This is more of the overall strength of the LCA mounts. The stock ones are junk.

$1k is pretty cheap compared to all the other $$ I have In suspension.

I will probably build an engine cage after that.

Lots of people spend way more $$ for stuff that isn't so critical.

Will do. Honestly it doesn't seem like a ton of work. I can take my front end apart in about an hour.

Then give me a bunch of fresh cut off wheels and some flappy disks. Cutting might take some time, but that's cuz I don't want to damage the frame by cutting too much.

The new frame will just use your factory skid plate bolts to locate it self. I don't think my front end is that jacked up.... I could be wrong. Lol

Yeah the closer you get to downtown SLC the more blue it gets, everywhere else is nice and red.

Eagle Mountain is the outskirts where you can get more house / more property for less $. It's next to to the west desert where a lot of good offroading and shooting spots are.

You sound like you might dig the Tooele or Granstville area. It’s west of SLC about 45 minutes. It’s still got a rural vibe to it.

But, like everywhere else in the state, prices are through the roof. Everyone is coming here from somewhere else (cough Kalifornia) and driving prices up. It’s a real sh!t show right now.

What's funny is I read a report that our population explosion is a factor of both people moving in and the existing population growing (children) and in many places, it's more of the new children being born that's a bigger factor....how true is that? idk. but I read it on the interwebs so of coures it's true. ;P
