What are the full numbers of both tires

 

You should be fine with one spare, and maybe bring a plug kit as a tertiary option. I see junker street cars drive that every time I have driven it. Obv stuff happens, but to get 2 disabling flats is out of this world unlucky on PET.

 

Yeah with my luck lately I’m almost betting on it lol but yeah maybe I’ll bring a plug kit too. Have you rescheduled your Alaska trip that you were going to do a couple years ago?

 

265/70r16 and 285/70r17

 

265/70r16 is about 30.6" tall
285/70r17 is about 32.4" tall
That's a decent difference in height, I wouldn't recommend running that as a spare but if you had to I would put both smaller tires on the back axle and stay in 2 wheel drive

 

@eltacoutah if you happen to get a flat in my neck of the woods (sagebrush) I've got a full set of 265/70r16 to get you home.

Over 2 inches in diameter difference. I probably wouldn't run that as a spare.

 

Are you supposed to put the smaller tire on the front passenger side?

something about it being connected to the transfer case the least amount

 

I say you just run it and report back to us if it grenades your diff.

all joking aside you’d just have to worry about over working the fluid and thus burning it up. So you can take it as a precaution and if you have to use it change all the fluid in all your diff’s. They aren’t any harder then an oil change.

 

Not exactly. I dont have the time away from work to be able to experience that trip "properly" since those that have done so the way I want have all taken a month+ to do what I was gonna do in 16 days.

That said, I do plan to make a trip this summer (MBA program acceptance/schedule pending) that will hit some of the highlights I wanted to see and be more enjoyable, rather than an endurance exercise.

Bro, dont even start with me on how little free time I may have. But the sooner I do it, the sooner I hopefully have it done.

 

MBA...it'll be worth it. Sacrifice now and in the future you'll make up for it.

 

If it’s the difference between getting off the trail and not getting off the trail, then it’s a no brainer as a last resort.

Besides, the spare that some vehicles come with would suggest it’s okay for the short term.

I have a 2nd and 3rd gen wheel bearing if anyone is interested. Sold my truck so no longer needed.

 

Do your 17's use the same lug nuts as you 16's? The 17's I had years ago used different lug nuts and out on the trail isn't where you want to figure that out.

 

4X4? Front or rear? Price?

 

They use different ones but I kept the originals, my plan was to just pack some but I think I might have found a 285 spare locally and might just use that.
