Yeah... I'm not talking about anything paved. I mean STEEP. 60% and wondering if your bumper will stop you from rolling backwards steep.

I know they say that modern dispensing systems are heavily filtered but I’m old school and won’t fill up at the same time they are restocking the supply tanks from a tanker.

10micron filters are used. Particulate and Water Sensing.
The in ground pumps, are installed to sit about 4-6" off the bottom of the tank, and are opposite end of the fill tube. Which we cut and install so the end of the tube is again, about 6-8" off the bottom cut at an angle. I personally install them so the angle is away from the stp. Plus, then end with the fill is supposed to be lower than the stp. Usually about a 1-2* tilt. Depending on State Requirements.

So with your experience, do we need to be concerned with sediment being sucked up and into the vehicle?

Generally no for any major branded site. 10micron is pretty small. They do a good job.

Some Mom n Pops will skimp on filters and use 30micron Particulate only filters. Because either they A have water issues into the tanks. B Dirty tanks that clog up the 10microns causing slow flow. B havent changed filters in so long they are in bypass mode or rotted out.

Submersible Turbine Pump. Sorry, shouldn't have used the acronym there.

hah! I found a little bit of steep in some of the hills behind me. got it up to like 15-20 degree tilt and sat there for a few minutes revving the engine at 3k. The radiator cap seems to ahve done the trick. The heater core I think is still clogged but I can take care of that later. easy enough to do the backflush and clean out properly. :D :D

The nerd in me is actually enjoying this information. What will I do with this information? I have no f*ing clue but I'm loving it. hahahahaha.

Dude. It was totally the radiator cap. Couldn't test the old one but I decided to throw on a replacement and it held everything just fine. The reservoir went down to normal levels and the coolant held throughout a good 10 minute drive with the heater running at full blast. I owe you a beer.

well, don't celebrate too much just yet. I just went for a drive around town and totally got it to spike again. reservoir started filling up beyond what it should. I think there's an air pocket moving through. I would assume it would've gotten out by now but....nope. Saw the temperature spike to 230. That was a stressful drive home. At one point, with the heater at full blast, i didn't get any hot air. Thinking definitely, an air pocket. the bigger bomb solution I think would be to fully flusht he whole system. or the easiest I think migth be to do the heater core back flush but that might not get it. :/

I'd have to look at my truck. But, bypass the heater core? Test it that way? If it all resolves then keeping the heater core isolated while you flush can be good.

it's intermittent, I can totally get hot air out of the vents right now if i tried.

I just had this thought as well. maybe the thermostat has gone bad. Definitely possible. It woudl actually make a lot of sense. coolant going into reservoir but not going back through the thermostat into the engine. intermittent temperature spikes. Gonna have to find the part to replace it. It looks fairly easy to do. According to the service manual.

Got a thermostat housing and some fluids. Noticed this morning the reservoir was empty so the fluids went somewhere. I'm guessing something to do with the thermostat. I'll be changing that later and then testing the old one.

Do the newer thermostats have a specific directional fit like the 1st Gens? Just a thought

the housing holds the thermostat and can only go one way. hard to mess up the direction of the thermostat. Not when it looks like this:

    Screen Shot 2022-04-18 at 3.43.21 PM.jpg

the thermostat is actually part of this entire assembly
