I don't have a rooftop tent, but I don't have a roof rack either. After this past weekend on the White Rim Trail right in the middle of the storm of the century, my 1UP hitch rack performed far better than any other rack I've ever used. I will always recommend 1UP racks every single time.

    Hopefully these pics work.

Started out using the tailgate method. Purposely got a rack tall enough to haul my bikes underneath.

    IMG_20170827_091300_833.jpg

Downside was that it took up space inside the bed, esp if you had multiple bikes in it, making road trips more difficult packing-wise. Eventually moved to hitch mounted solutions (Alta Rack, then 1up currently). Works much better since its easier to access your bike for riding and stuff, doesn't take up bed cargo space, and potentially saves your tailgate paint.

Knolls edition of the Bonneville Offroad Racing Series is this weekend. I'll be manning a checkpoint with my dog as usual, if anyone wants to come hang out and watch some cool side by sides up through trophy trucks race around the desert.

Free to spectate, so come on out if you want. Race starts somewhere between 7 and 9, details haven't been finalized yet. Camping out there the nights before/after as well.

    My checkpoint: 40.68654, -113.30135

A Magnuson supercharger + minor supercharger mods and the TRD tune makes a huge difference. Not free, but it is worth it IMO. Wish I didn’t sell mine.

Just enough to look kinda cool.
I saw someone put a rack hanging off the outside of the bed rail. It was on a work truck with a cap so I don’t have a picture but it basically was a single track that was sandwiched between the cap and bed side.

edit: here’s a link to what I’m describing not sure how wide your tent sits or how many bikes you’re trying to carry. https://www.reddit.com/r/TruckCampe...ing_for_a_bike_side_mount_thatll_fit_with_my/

Just wanted to give a quick shoutout to the gang at Big O tires in Sandy. Probably the most pleasant tire buying experience I’ve had in a while.

    Couple options here…

I ran a hitch extender to run my bike rack with a swing out. You can get a 12” extender from harbor freight for like $20. It was just enough to clear my ridiculous offset beadlock and 35x12.5 with a one-up rack.

Have someone cut and weld a 2” receiver tube into the swingout cross arm. This brings it up and out to clear, but adds a lot of weight. To the swing out.

Run something off the side of the bed like Conner posted.

Sane truck, but a different rack and RTT. What are you up to these days?

Excellent! I like this idea. It doesn’t appear to be as wide as I envisioned.

Good ideas. Adding more weight to the back, I mean why not.

Have any of you rode trails in the Uinta’s?

I was thinking of driving out to China Lake this weekend and noticed a bunch of bike trails on the Gaia app.

I think the only "legal" mountain bike trail in the Uintas is slate creek, way down by Kamas.

I wouldn't trust Gaia for mountain bike trails around here. If you're looking for trails, try Trailforks.

On the topic of carrying bikes. I have a 1up single and love it, but it usually holds my girlfriend's bike. I build a sliding axle mount in the back of my truck for my bike so I can lock it up out of sight.

I'm honestly really nervous about bike theft. I just got a 15mm hex chain to secure her bike on the back. I now feel some comfort leaving her bike while on road trips and leaving the truck for hours.

Unrelated to bikes but I'm curious about your camper shell. It looks awesome. Is that a steel commercial cap?

The Forrest service squashed all the good "jeep" trails long ago. However, I'll happily pay the $50 fine when I get caught. Flame away

Around here we have several decent backwoods trails. Not sure what you define as a "Jeep trail", but they aren't paved and some have some pretty rough spots. Some narrow trails with intimidating drop-offs too.

There's a logging road from Richfield to Koosharem, the top of the Pahvant range and going over to Fillmore, the Skyline Drive from Tucker to I70, a nice trail from I70 frontage road to Anthony Flats, and all the access roads along the Wasatch Plateau. And lots less well known...
