I agree that it's very unlikely traction laws will be in place at any point this weekend. No snow in the forecast for a while.

Well I'm flying in on the evening of the 25th. I think its forecast to snow the day before I come in and a fair amount the week before I come.

yeah, your best bet is to get a car with snow rated tires on all four tires. I would call the rental place lest you want to get stuck or get turned around. The other option is to get a rental car, drive it to the park and ride lots at the mouth of the canyon and take the ski bus from there to solitude. (not to mention you'll need parking reservations to get parking at the lot)

if you need to park on the side of the road, watch where you're parking. above a certain point is "no parking anytime" (people ignore it and get tickets) and do not park outside the white lines. they're super strict on that. you'll get ticketed otherwise.

There are peoplel who organize carpools up but i'm not aware of the system in place for solitude.

There's a hub where people have to be to get a ride. NOT the airport. Choose a place to stay based on where the hub is.

I wish there was a way to ensure that the vehicle I rent has the proper tires. Unfortunately speaking with someone at the location as proven to be almost impossible.

oh, in your case, if you're going to park and ride at the mouth of the canyon, make sur eyour'e allowed to park overnight. some lots are day parking only.

but yeah.....you're going to need to get in contact with them somehow. email or call or something. Whos' the rental company? depending, they MIGHT have something but since they're not legally required to have snow tires on their cars, they probably don't have them.

Unless you get a tacoma or equivalent vehicle.

How big is your party? maybe you need to get a bunch of them in on a shuttle service which will have the proper tires.

I've been calling all the numbers given to me from various rental palces for their "slc location" and no one answers. It's just me and my wife traveling.

I'm almost at the point to offer some TW member in the area $200 to take us to and from the airport and solitude on those days haha. At least I know the vehicle should be canyon worthy haha.

Its weird times. Flying in Sat the 25th at 8ish pm and then flying out Tuesday the 28th at 5:30 am. So it's not exactly convenient times for anyone haha.

Ah, sorry. I misunderstood and thought you were coming in this weekend. Way too far out to trust the snow forecast for your weekend yet.

    Not much stock left.
    Hopefully, that goes okay.

if you’re still looking for a shop, you could try Agility Customs.

Question for anyone who has a RTT.

Maybe it’s a dumb question…do you go thru automated car washes, or just use the self serve ones?
I am waiting for it to warm up before I put my first one on so I’m curious.
Also, is there anything else I should know or look into?

Self serve, or in my driveway.

Also, invest in a lantern of some sort to illuminate the tent when in it. I like the LuminAid ones. Solar so you can charge them on your dash during the day.

As well, Walmart/REI,etc sell a small hand broom for like $3. Really nice for getting the little bit of inevitable dirt/sand/etc off the mattress.

Lastly, don't unfurl the tent until its almost time for bed. So many people pop it as soon as they get somewhere and if you need to move it, it does make it a pain. If you wait until almost time for bed, it really negates that whole issue. If you leave your bedding and all inside the tent, toss your overnight bag and lantern in the tent and you're G2G in under 5 mins.

I’m surprised you can store that much inside the tent when it’s closed…once I finally unbox mine I’m gunna have to figure that out. Being able to keep most the sleeping things all inside is nice.
I know the tent comes with hardware, but did you opt for longer/stronger hardware to secure to the rack?
I’ve read mentions about doing that but maybe it’s just personal preference.

Depends on the tent. I have the 3 man tepui and I can fit 2 regular bed pillows, and 2 sleeping bags, no problem. A friend has a hardshell from one of the big names (I forget which) and he can't fit hardly anything in it.

My tent I actually had to get shorter hardware because past the plate and nuts was like 3 inches of bolt.

If you are mounting on a tube type rack, the metal bracket from muffler clamps work well to wrap around the tube and are a super secure mounting solution.

Nice. I have a CVT Mt Shasta I believe it’s called. So nothing super fancy like a hard shell. I’ll check it out and see what I can keep in there and it is what it is. The bed rack I ordered is pictured below. So hopefully with my inexperience it all works out. I wanted a diff bed rack but after the tent cost I had to go a little cheaper on that.

I did also go mid height since I don’t want it fully above the cab. And went with the long bed option since, well, my trucks a ‘long bed.’
