Actually, proper Rattlesnake is more difficult than Mineral Basin, by a good amount. Its just that RS has a lot of bypasses, allowing most to "run" it. When I take people up, I take them through all the bypasses, as I cant even do RS proper (well, the truck is capable, but I'd need ideal weather, spotter, lots of patience, and a bit of luck). Officially, if you take all the bypasses, does that mean you actually did the trail, or not?

    For example:
The step thats about 3 feet high and at a 20* off camber is the trail, while the easy/level part on the right is the bypass.
The boulder garden is the official trail, while the trail to the left is a bypass.
Hugging the rock wall forcing you to crawl the medium rocks is the trail, and to the left is a bypass.
Wayne's World is officially part of Rattlesnake.

Then there's a bunch of extra optional stuff thats even more difficult than listed above. (Some claim some of it isn't part of the trail, but officially part or not, once the trails been made, its going to get used)

When comparing the two, you have to remember that the original Rattlesnake followed the river bed, while Mineral Basin is an old miners trail that is still semi-maintained. When people took bypasses on RS, it chewed up the soft banks of the dried riverbed, sometimes making them lower than the original trail (and a lot easier in many places). The rockiest places are likely the closest to the original trail as you'd be able to find today.

^^this. The actual rattlesnake is by no means a mild trail, it's a rig destroyer. There have just been so many people that use the bypasses that they look like The main trail now. Some of the bypasses aren't very nice either, I'd honestly not recommend it to stock trucks unless they wanna get a bumper or rocker panel hung up.

You may be able to get through a large portion of the trail using bypasses and be just fine, but the 2 or 3 spots that get gnarly with no go around is all it takes. I'm not trying to scare anyone away!! I hope all of you come and enjoy 5 mile, there's tons out there for bone stock 2WD trucks and after we run rattlesnake I think we should go out to the quarry which is a fun trail that can get fast at times and anyone can make it. We could spend a whole week out there and I'd still have lots of long trails and routes to go run.

Hard to say with all my school and work. I should be getting more free time starting April. I'm quitting one of my jobs because the one I liked more offered me my pick of shifts. I picked three graveyard shifts.

But after school is over at the beginning of May I'll be free practically any day as long as I don't pick up shifts.

I have been posting in the CO threads trying to find someone to go hit a few trails where there isn't so much snow the week of april 1. I was thinking of heading out to Moab, but never been so I do t know where I would go, and I am still trying to recruit some other people so I am not wheeling alone. Any takers/advice?
