Wow, the platinum warranty I paid extra for when I got the truck might actually be paying off...I called Karl Malone and they said it should be covered. Bringing it in later this week...we'll see what happens. Wonder if I could pay the difference in having them replace the coolant bypass pipe with the updated model while they are in there....

I still totally expect them to say my ditch lights void the warranty coverage when I bring it in.

My selling dealer (truck and this warranty) is Karl Malone, but the warranty VSA pamphlet is stamped with Toyota Financial Services. Wonder if that means I can go to any Toyota dealer?

It does say for any questions or additional info, contact your selling dealer KARL MALONE.

huh. i would venture to guess that youc an go to any toyota dealer? don't quote me on that though. I would say if KM gives you trouble about your "ditch lights" voiding, then maybe go somewhere else with teh extended warranty and see what they can give you.

If you’re going the dealer route, I would consider Mark Miller.

A quick update. It was my rear main leaking. Went to Mark Miller and they were awesome, so far. Dropped it off Saturday and took a loaner car home. Got a call today saying the truck is done but they are keeping it for another night to let the sealant setup/dry good before I take it.

It was all repaired under my platinum warranty, so pretty stoked about that. 2K miles left on that extended warranty..so hopefully I'm good for awhile lol.

So with 2K left on the warranty... how much did you pay for it including finance charges, and what have you had done to the truck that wasn't covered by the manufacturers warranty?

I accepted the job in Park City last week. Starting in Febuary so starting to look at places in Heber and maybe Kimball Junction. Do you undercoat your trucks out there, I haven't done it but I do believe I have the improved frame sealant on my truck based on buying it in Maryland. I need to look again and find the thread on here that someone posted a pic that shows it.

i haven't undercoated mine. my understanding is that it's sixes if it's a good idea or not. the most suggested product i hear of is fluid film. i just am sure i wash my truck consistently all the time.

yeah when I went out to pick up my gfc topper last winter I washed it once I got to the coast. I sold the topper to a guy from upstate new york and he didn't coat his. his agruement was you would have to coat it in a climate controlled area so it would be pointless to seal it if you didn't do it right away. the frame would be holding moisture any way.

I don't know what the difference is between the rust belt and here, but Utah uses salt on the roads and I have never heard of anyone having their frames rust out from under their trucks... even Toyota frames. I have a '78 Chevy I've doing a body swap on and after the original body was removed the frame was in great shape. The rust belt must treat their salt with steroids or something.

I undercoat with fluid film every fall in preparation for the winter salt. It seems like it’s done a decent job slowing down the rust spreading over the years.

Congrats on the job! I love Heber / Midway. My bro lives in rural Summit County and loves it.

The only rusted Toyota frames in Utah are trucked that moved in from out of state. That’s confirmed by the service manager (and family friend) at the downtown dealership who’s had to sign off on all the frame replacements since the 1st Gen recall.

You’ll get some surface rust if you don’t do Fluid Film (or similar) but it’s not bad. Just keep it washed in winter.

Congrats on the job. The whole area around Heber is blowing up. Hardly recognize the place anymore.

Frequent washing of the undercarriage should do the trick.

The frame on my '05 was replaced under the toyota TSB at about 180,000 miles. Lived it's entire life in Utah, and I kept it washed in the winter.

I don't know how Toyota has gotten away with continuing to use substandard frames over years following the problem being identified. Do other Toyota products have rust issues?

    How's your "new" frame?
