I can't get away from boots between the tundra and now the Tacoma. Also emailed RCV and they have a pretty sweet setup, but it's a pretty good price. So many things to spend money on ha

RCVs are sweet, I had them on my 4Runner a couple builds ago. Beefiness to the max and you wont ever damage the orange "boots", they do sling a little grease but it's livable.

What's the downside of these? I've heard some say there is but can't remember

Well, the cost is high, very high. Last time I looked I think the sets for our trucks were $2500 for the pair. People bitch and moan about the cost but these are made with an expensive alloy that is costly to produce and machine. They also have a lifetime warranty.

Other than cost there is no real downside.

You will also hear people say that "well it moves the weak link into or to the front diff", theoretically, yes. But the 8" front diff in our trucks is pretty robust and much stronger than the factory CVs so in my eyes and mind running RCVs allows a good driver to attempt lines, tight turns, and tolerates more throttle than the stock axles could ever put up with.

Re-keyed the Tacoma today. Wanted to get some new keys made for backups and didn't want to use two different keys to open and start.

It was pretty cool doing this for the first time and learning about different size tumblers and how it works.

The car lot I bought the truck from in Texas didn't know wtf they were doing. Thats why I also had to work on the alarm. But it's also why i got a killer deal on the price of the truck because they didn't know how to fix it.

Got the new boots on today. Ordered these high angle boots from CVJ. If anyone wants to see the difference compared to a stock boot

For sure I thought it was a bit steep for a "boot" but they have more fins, longer and thicker material. After seeing them in person it's worth the extra monies.

Do you still want that AP extended cv shaft for a spare? I still don't know if its really 29 or 30 spline but they somehow made it work for our diffs/hubs.
