I admit, I was tempted by the 2024 Overlander, but reviews and low sales of the 2024 supercharged 4 cylinder hybrid have me wondering if I should have considered the 2023 as the pinnacle of V6 naturally aspirated Tacoma perfection. Oh well, with only 84k on my 2008 TRD Sport 6spd manual, and 2023 similar rigs now virtually gone, I'm content. Back to YouTube vids.... Hope all are enjoying a reflective Memorial Day and appreciative of all we Honor and Remember.

Yeh, I will not believe the 4th gen Taco turbo-4-cylinder hype until at least 7-10 years have passed and there is an accumulation of many reports of it making it to 200K+ miles (and beyond) without major/serious engine flaws.

I understand new Gen kinks, but the platform on the new ground up revamp seems problematic from the ground up. New OEM headlights on the way... :)

My 08 officially has frame cancer so I'm in the market to replace it.

The low sales numbers of the 2024 supercharged four cylinder hybrid Tacoma are understandably low - no such truck exists.

I admit, I did look at the '24 while my '06 (with 91k miles) was getting a few things looked at a month ago. While I really like the new styling, the new turbo 4 makes me nervous. Would like to see reports on performance and longevity of turbo. Not sure they'll even make 100k. So, new headlights installed (my wife couldn't believe how new it made my truck look), and a new head unit for entertainment with Android Auto. Will keep my gen 2 even longer.

Don't disagree, Toyota engines are rock solid. It's longevity for turbos (as a component) in general. All companies are going inline 4 with turbos. Subaru got rid of their 6 in the Outback line starting '20 which my wife has and loves 2.4 turbo. But, she only has 30k on it at this juncture. I'm a wait and see person and I don't buy 1st year of new model to work out the kinks.

I think it's funny how people ignore the fact Toyota has been plugging turbos into the diesel motors of the Hilux & Land Cruiser for the last 30 years.

Literally every diesel version of Toyotas flagship 4x4 offroaders around the world have a turbo in them.

Toyota knows how to build a reliable turbo

Do they? Or how to spec and source? Similar, but different.

Old Supras with twin turbos. Inline 6, 3.0 L, 320HP were lots of fun.

Gotta know a thing or two about how something is built in order to create a good set of technical specifications for it. Any machinist will tell you that and I say that as a licensed design engineer myself.

Edit - the old Supras were amazing. Would love to rebuild one someday after I hit the lottery

I’d expect the turbo/hybrid sales #s to be low currently, the dealers down my way just started getting them this past week.

While it’s reasonable to expect Toyota to have hurdles with a new platform (this happens every time) there is no reason to believe the addition of a turbo is going to guarantee failure and to suggest the new t-4 will fail to make it to 100k and 200k is ridiculous.

If the addition of a turbo was guaranteed to cause catastrophic failures manufacturers wouldn’t still be putting them on vehicles 50 years later.

plenty of t powered vehicles running around with 200,300,400+k miles on them and they’re not replacing the turbo every time they change the oil.

I suspect sales numbers are low because how much is a 4th gen going for???
    How high are interest rates???
How many times have every one of you been told to avoid new model years???

    Let’s get real here.

Also add planned lack of inventory by Toyota affecting sales numbers...

But I agree, was pretty excited to upgrade my 2013 to a 2024+, but given the high price, I'll be keeping it for the foreseeable future. Not because of the new powertrain/turbo debate.
