Got an 09 Tacoma Access- 4 cyl. 5 speed. - Had to go to Home Depot and parked in the contractor parking, it was very close quarters.. I was in the store maybe 30 minutes and came out and noticed a full length key scratch the whole side of my taco. I just found the same thing on the other side today! The color is Barcelona red.

They started from the tail light all the way to the headlight, through the middle of the the doors. The lenses are definitely scratched.. Talk about infuriating.:mad:

I just now tried to wax it out but its still there... its appears to be a surface scratch and not too deep, but the discoloration appears permanent..the paint doesn't seem gouged in a "chipped" sorta way.

Is there a product better than car wax? It kills me . only had my truck for 3 months. daym.. makes me sick and weak ....

    What should I do?

    thanks

That sucks man. I just went on a road trip and got keyed either in Moab or the Four corners area. They keyed a small mountain range under the TRD sticker.

    Try some rubbing compound maybe?

What the hell is wrong with people. In what state of mind is doing something like that ok?

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Cameras in the parking lot would be nice. Then

A few years back I backed up at night and took out my passenger side mirror on a mailbox. Scratches were pretty bad. I brought it to the dealer to get a new mirror and showed then the scratch, the body shop guy buffed it completely out and it has not come back. Really sorry about the keying, but with any luck it will buff out.

Use it as an excuse to file a comp claim on your insurance. They will have to re-spray your entire truck to make it match anyway. Toyota paint blows hard, I've seen so many '05-'09 trucks (mostly black, red and dark red) with faded or peeling paint on the hood and roof. You will have a brand new looking truck on the outside again, so win/win if you ask me unless you've got a super high deductible.

Could be am excuse to wheel the truck harder. I got really pissed when I scratched the shit out of my truck...then I wheeled it more. Not trying to be a douchebag but life is to short. Life's a garden, dig it!

Look up Adamspolishes.com. The company is in Colorado and they're super helpful. If you are anywhere nearby and can swing by their warehouse I bet they'll try to buff out the scratches for free, if they look doable. Prob. Best to call or email first, of course.

    More than I can afford
    Sucks.

Some dirtbag etched his gang scrawl on the back door of my work van at Home Depot a few years ago. Since the paint was hashed, I wetsanded it until no more vato scrawl was obvious.

Was only in the store for 10 minutes too.

Run your fingernail across the scratch, and if it gets caught in the scratch, most likely a professional detailer wouldn't get it out without compromising the paint. Hope you have full coverage.

My kid scratched the bed of my truck with his bicycle handlebars. I used Meguiar's ScratchX with my dual action polisher and it almost took the scratch completely out. It burnishes the paint and takes the scratch away. The scratch is gone but there's a tiny valley where the scratch was. Couldn't find it unless you were looking for it.

There isn't an insurance company in the world going to spray the entire truck for a scratch. It ain't happening.

If you can feel the scratch with your nail, the clearcoat is compromised and it WILL bubble eventually.
    Only solution is a respray.
If you can't feel the scratch, then it can be buffed out.

    I share your pain.
My wife's Rav got keyed when it was 2 or 3 years old.

10 years old now and it's beat to shit from the pigs in our condo complex banging their doors into it. They're trying to trash my Tacoma but Super White doesn't show that badly.
I need to get out of this fucking shithole of dirtbags.

Thanks for the support guys! I was thinking in bed last night maybe they have some cameras , wouldn't it be so cool if I actually saw the piece of shit on camera then see him get into his vehicle with plate number visible ? I would laugh my ass off! A cop would be visiting his residence !

I have full coverage but huge deduct.

Gotta do the finger nail trick so I guess that's the last recourse. Otherwise it's gonna be permanent .

Makes you wonder though just what the fuck is going thru some shit heads mind when they do something like this? It's vandalism and should be punishable. Would love to see someone go to jail or get a fine and have to pay for to fix it.. That would be the ultimate redemption!

I read the detail section but am still not clear on how to proceed, only to run my nail across the Scratch. It does not appear to have compromised the paint but it's definately dis colored and obvious. Will try to post pics.
Thanks guys.. Gotta have moral support on shit like this.. Wife just doesn't get it.

My old 99 5-lug got keyed in Los Angeles on my drivers door so I got to look at it every day. I basically stopped washing it out of depression. It was so deep it could rust in it...

Hope yours buffs out a bit.
