$850 is about $100 over retail for just the part... It is easy to order one for about $532 (toyotapartsdeal)...
If $850 bought it and got it installed (right), then that sounds reasonable to me...

I got one last year for $550 shipped from Camelback Toyota. Included iTREs.

$850 is a lot. Was that from a local dealer and include tax?

Sounds about right for a dealership parts department. My local one charges about double what everything costs online from OEM warehouses or even other dealers out of state. CA dealerships ain't cheap.

Next time, go into you local parts dept with some printouts of the parts you need with prices from other suppliers. Most dealerships will price match in order to make a sale, but of course they'll never advertise that. They want to make as much as they can. If they won't price match, walk away and order online. But most times they will.

Not bad for a newer Tacoma steering rack, I would have thought they'd really mark those up

I have seen them as high as 1500.00 and a salvage yard wanted $650.00 for one from a totaled vehicle.

Absolutely. My local dealer wanted $90 for the window trim, I was about to hang up the guy said “Wait, I’ll give it to you for $65.”

    Did the stealership install it?

    If not, you definitely overpaid.

Lowrange offroad has a complete kit with ES poly bushings and inner/outer tie rods for like $580.

In the future, if you want OEM parts, Camelback Toyota should be your first stop. Then if you don't want to do the work, take the price sheet in to your dealer and ask that they match the parts price, at least...

Toyota is the only source for an OE rack. The "new" aftermarket racks are all the same Chinese knock offs no matter who markets them. They have a bunch of issues with quality control and just plane old quality. Some will go the distance (so far), some have minor production/assembly errors (with catastrophic potential), some show drastic wear in a short time and still others have failed catastrophically. They can be had online for around $250 but marked way up by places like Lowrange or any other houses with "Off Road" in their names.

The slip joint can not be accessed unless the column is removed.

Thank u guys so much for the info. Man oh man I found a few great sites to check out.

So I got a new one for $850 (with taxes) and this fucker sprung a leak. I took my truck to the dealership and told them I sprung a leak. They advised I change my power steering pump (which I did a few hours later cuz that was shot as well) and if I still have a leak they would warranty it. Ever since I changed the pump it’s literally spilling out of the leak area. I went thru 2 power steering bottles on my trip to Big Bear. I called this morning and the managers that told me they would warranty it won’t return till wed since they work the weekends. Now I’m literally back to square 1 with a leaky Rack and the need to replace it.

No bueno, and that’s when I noticed it. Now if I have it parked anywhere I find a puddle of fluid
