Hello everyone - I'm looking to move up from a 2017 Tacoma SR 4x4 Access cab V4 to a 2020 Tacoma SR 4x4 Access Cab V6. Should I expect to see a noticeable increase in power? Thanks in advance for sharing any of your experiences!

The 6 has quite a bit more grunt than the 4, I think you'll be quite happy.

Test drive a few before pulling the trigger.

My truck has sufficient power to get me around the congested Northeast, but I read other 3rd gen owners complain about a lack of power- to each their own.

I have also read that the 4 cylinder is more “bulletproof” and easier to do maintenance on- spark plugs and oil changes, but not sure about that.

I would not own a mid sized pickup truck with a 4 cylinder engine, but that is just my personal preference.

    And...welcome to TW.

    Yes, it will be good.
Also, Dude, V4 is not the proper nomenclature. "2.7L" or "I4" please.

While the only issue with an i4 i ever had in their small 4x4 pickups was a broken crankshaft key, they always seemed underpowered, even when i took a test ride in a 2020 manual 4 cylinder. I came to the conclusion what was toyota thinking by putting a 4 cylinder in a truck this heavy? I opted for the v6, it was a no brainer.

Thanks for your response and for letting a newbie ask questions! Living in hilly Alabama, this 2.7L struggles to get up hills - I have to pretty much punch it each time and even then, if the elevation is high, I barely make it.

Welcome aboard! You should feel a good increase in power upgrading to the v6. That being said though can't go wrong either way! I love my 4 banger

It's all relative, my old 22re never met a hill it couldn't climb- might take a bit but it would get there eventually..

With the 4 cylinder your left waiting for something to happen when you push the petal to the floor. The 6 may not feel very robust off the bottom, but it does make some good power if you tell it to.

Tacomas are slow as shit no matter how many cylinders you have. I do wish I got a 5.7 Tundra sometimes
