Ok since I was bored at work and actually curious I did the math, which may or may not be right. I also did some assumptions/pulled numbers out of my ass on mileage and what not.

A 460km tank of fuel that takes 70L to fill will average 15.4mpg, 87 octane at $1.00/L gives a cost of $0.15/km
A 530km tank of fuel that takes 70L to fill will average 17.8mpg, 91 octane at $1.12/L gives a cost of $0.15/km

So unless I messed up my math it's a complete wash cost wise, and like you said one less fill up every 5500km.

You've only got my "ish" numbers though. And the cap and trade bump is skewing the gas price in the middle of my data collection time frame.

...I'm hoping for 700+ km tanks once the good weather returns.

    :D

Wha ? There was like 3 Alberta people in the Canada BS thread moaning about how high gas prices were because " they went up .20 cents because of the stupid carbon tax "

It's only 80 litres though. Or is there a reserve tank on top of that?

I have a 2011 Tacoma V6 TRD double cab and o believe the maximum I've gotten to a tank is 400 km.. so something definitely seems wrong. Bought the truck certified used from Toyota almost 1 year ago with only 71 thousand KM. Any suggestions?

More details on the truck are needed. Any modifications? Where do you live? Are there lots of hills? City or highway driving?

Hi balljoint, I believe the truck is stock except for a small lift I think, (but I don't think it's much) and I have BFG all terrain KO2's on currently but they match the spec's for the truck, and I've been getting the same economy with them as with my previous all season tires. I do live in an area with many hills, and usually it is a combination of about half highway/ half city driving. I was also just told the spark plugs need to be done so I might try and do that. Would that help the economy much? Also, I said I get "400" km, but thats usually if I do all highway KM. usually the fuel light will go on with regular driving at 380 - 390 KM I believe. Thanks for the replys, I'm new to this and this is my first truck and I would like to do some work on it myself, I haven't done much yet.

BC says it all to me. You are probably getting pretty good mileage for where you are. If you want to stretch your km/tank I recommend no ethanol in your fuel. Shell 91 octane is what I use in Ontario. More $/L though.

I have never seen any change in mpg with a plug change but I am very regular on the interval for the V6. Tires and fuel and load are the main factors. If you have soft knobby tires you burn fuel. If you have a lift and armour you burn fuel. If your bed is full of 1,500 lbs of beer and bikini clad babes like @ChadsPride then your fuel economy is going to suck.

Oh and if you drive like a kid you burn fuel.

Drive like an old man and keep it under 2000 rpm like me and it will help.

I've averaged 12.5L/100km my last ten tanks, mostly working around Coronation/Hanna/Drumheller and traveling back and forth to Calgary once every week or two.

Best tank is 544.2km using 64.761L giving 11.9L/100km (19.7 US MPG).

    Not too shabby I think!
