    I agree.

There are possibly some exceptions, due to motor loads and/or environmental conditions. But those are the minority.......... and can also be confirmed via testing as well.

Mobil 1 synthetic, Toyota filter, I've been changing oil and filter every 5000. I was also driving 400 to 600 miles a week, all in town in heavy stop and go traffic, and towing regularly.

I've since stopped using my Toyota for work, and its being driven much easier, no towing, and a fraction of the miles. I haven't decided whether or not to extend the OCI yet. I'm almost at the 5k mark now, (most of those miles being under the previously mentioned conditions). I'm probably going to go ahead and change it now, but get Blackstone to test a sample, and if it looks good I might start extending the intervals to 7 or 8k.

There are other good choices out there.

But Mobil 1 is generally easily available and can be found at nice discounts.

I think he was saying the oil manufacturers fib on longevity for marketing reasons, not that Blackstone labs testing is inaccurate. His post is awkwardly worded.

Honest question to those that are running 10k or more between changes, are you having your oil tested, and what are the results?

    No I haven't.

As far as companies lying about the data to sell people on extended drains; why would they do it? Telling people that they don't have to change their oil as often costs the manufacturers money by not selling more oil.

I do it at the most convenient time after the 5000mile light comes on. Sometimes that's 5001 miles, sometimes it's 6500 miles. Try not to go more than that even though I use Mobil 1.

I voted for Synthetic Every 5K, but I run Mobil 1 or Castrol w/a Mobil 1 filter and change it every 6k instead of every 5K.

on my Geo Metro I run 8-12k with 0-40w Mobile European synthetic formula, but the Tacoma gets Walmart 5-30 full synthetic for 5k. At $17 a 5 quart it isn't any more expensive than most other popular dino brand oils. Wally synthetic is easily the best synthetic for the dollar:) I may try the 0-40w Mobile European synthetic in the Tacoma for 10k next time.

Every 5k but I'm SC, and drive it very hard in the desert only putting about 300-400 miles a month... I've had an oil change ready for it since last summer but still 1500 miles away from 5k.

I was thinking about doing this... I know Toyota recommends 10k for a lot of the cars designed to run on 0w-20 but not experienced enough to know if I can do the same on my Tacoma.

    nothing cool
4-5k depending on when i have time and it's hopefully warm since i do it in my garage. easy change with the fumoto valve and a case of OEM filters. just bought a minivan and they told us every 10k miles since it have synthetic oil. which doesn't really bother me since we have a lifetime powertrain warranty on it. 10k seems like a joke, but i hope it's fine
