Only a matter of time now that the Ram 1500 and F-150 have diesel options. I'm even willing to bet that the Tacoma will soon have a diesel option given that the sales of the 2.8L Duramax Colorado and Canyon have done surprisingly well. There is a growing market out there and Toyota can't completely rest on its laurels in the mid-size segment..

I hope so, the RD has been complete for some time now with toyotas diesels. Damn near every hilux overseas has 2 diesel options. Hell make a smaller version of the 7.6 from the Hino and drop in a tundra. Great torque and are pretty damn quick compared to other trucks its size.

Definitely would be more interested in a diesel swap but the likelihood of that happening to my truck is nigh ZERO +/- 0.000001%.

Now I need to search the forum to see who has done it...

I figured because the 4.7 from the 4runner v8 is the same as the one from the tundra it would have similar mounts and the trans should also be the same?

Not worth it if your engine is perfectly fine. If it's shot then it possibly makes sense for a fun project

Funny, I was thinking that since the 4.0 appeared in the Tundra, the Tundra V8 might fit in the Taco :)

How badly warped? Something a torque plate and slight boring could fix, or is that cost and time prohibitive versus a drop in 4.7 w/OEM ecu?

I'd like to see Toyota offer a V8 in a Tacoma. I just got a used one with a V6 though and am enjoying the power difference over the 4.

Apparently with the 4.0 you can't bore it because of the way the sleeves are, a friend said that it would need to be resleaved, but most people recommend getting a whole new short block, which I would hate to do....

It can be bored. Been there, done that. You just don't want to go extensive like .030" over. Not enough nicasil lining for that.

Getting a long block is easier than a short block. Picked those up from 1200 - 1800.

LC Engineering was doing them to near .020" over.

I'd only go as much over as necessary though. With a torque plate.
