Were you able to retain the A/C system?

You can retain the transmission BUT you will need the UZ bell housing and converter.

I'm not sure if I remember correctly but the motor mounts will not line up and have to be moved.

If you're dead set on using the tundra 2uz you'll need the upper, lower and pick up tube from the v8 4runner along with the radiator and shroud

You'll have more wiring to ro with the 05 because of the immobilizer and the throttle pedal. Also it took me a while to figure out the 4wd part of the wiring to keep the switch working properly.

I'm sure you can have the key programmed but you'll have top wire up the obd2 port which is also tricky

I thought about a 4.7 swap to haul my slide-in camper on my 2005 back in 2011 when my head gasket blew. But I looked at the other options and here I am 8 years later easily and safely pushing 407hp / 420tq which is considerably more than the 4.7 does stock. If money is not a big concern like it has not been for me, go over to URD and start pricing things out all things Magnuson S/C. It's not cheap but for me, it is very much worth it.

The truck doesn't tend to fishtail due to all that power?

Well sure if you apply it like a drag racer / hooligan but that is not why I have it.

The bottom end torque comes on readily at 1,500rpms, sings above 2,000 and is within 20-30 foot pounds of max from 2,500 to 4,500, max at 3,850. So I really use it for the added weight my overland camping setup requires, makes it a very apt power band for that kind of load.

Everything works factory, the TRD supercharger was installed in 2008 by my dealer, it was manufactured by Magnuson for Toyota to begin with. Toyota discontinued the TRD S/C lineup in 2015 and then magnuson picked up where they left off including the fit kits. The initial Toyota installed build was at 305 hp / 335tq with no other mods.

I know this platform well so I have got it to where I think it is perfect over the years. I could make over 500hp with this motor but I would have to go with forged rods and pistons, etc, and to be honest, I am very happy right where I am at.

I have to applaud magnuson for making the products again, that means more are in circulation so it is not such an outlier upgrade. If you are interested you can see what they offer here: https://www.urdusa.com/magnuson-trd-supercharger/

0 points. You used money instead of might... and now comparing apples to oranges. The 4.7L is a million mile motor and can be built up and supercharged (or turbo’d such as OP’s) and drive circles around your V6 and sound better while doing it.
I know you’re filthy rich and all but for the skilled DYI’er the V8 swap can be done for less than half of what it costs to set up the baseline TRD supercharger and you’ll be faster and on 87 gas and run cooler.

thanks for the heads up,i'll be sure to pick up the radiator and shroud while i'm at it, getting a whole tranny with low mileage for an additional $500 so i'm gonna just swap it out as well and get my old parts sold, the electrician i'm hiring has done similar jobs before but never the 2uz swap, he sounds pretty confident none the less so not too worried about the wiring.

once i get the ball rolling i'll be sure to keep you guys posted with the progress.

It’s an idiot gauge anyway. OP used the earlier motor without vvti with a throttle cable and no immobilizer so your wiring project will be much much more involved.
As long as your OBDII Port works, and if you live anywhere that requires emissions checks it will need to you can use the torque app or scan gauge or whatever to monitor temps accurately

well once there are alternatives i'm good, i'll go over it with electrician once more and once he's still as confident after i share what ive gathered here, i'll go ahead with the 05 engine, otherwise i'll just see if the guy as any non-vvti in stock, at this point i'm just really missing my truck and cant wait to have her running again.

Not hard to add a external temperature gauge

OP, what did you do suspension wise for the added weight? The 2UZ weighs 200lbs more than the 4.0L V6 and probably even more difference to your old 4banger...
