Hey guys, I own a 3rd gen tacoma with the I4 engine. With larger wheels and tires it struggles to get up to speed and has low fuel economy. I also own a 2007 sequoia with the 4.7 V8 engine and was wondering if anyone had an opinion about swapping them. Either way the sequoia will soon be parted out.
Response would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Where are you located? Look up your smog laws. If done right, why not? Gonna be a good amount of work and I would bet some custom fabrication. Just think it through.

it would probably be cheaper to just swap AND supercharge a v6 3rd gen....but if you are looking for something different, could be fun

I’d be in for a good build thread

Swapping a V8 into a 3rd gen wouldn’t be all that difficult. Swapping a V8 into a 3rd gen and retaining all the built in supporting systems is another story. As a project it could be fun, if it has to be done in a short time frame because you depend on it, it would probably suck balls. Everything depends on how you view the roadblocks along the way. I’d probably just sell it and buy a new Reg cab, short bed F150 with a 5.0 and call it a day.

I would think the V8 swap from your sequoia should be on the easier side, since you have a complete vehicle to get the whole engine, accessories, wiring harness, and ECU but there will be some custom work that will need to be addressed... motor mounts... front springs to hold extra engine weight... rear end and gearing and I am sure a few other things that I am not thinking about. Good luck

Keep in mind that bigger wheels and tires change up the gearing in that Gen 3 Taco... that really needs to be offset or changed to work better with your current power plant... even with more power from the larger engine you will still probably be losing power through wrong gearing. Yes the bigger wheels and tires weight more but the gearing would seem to be the biggest problem. The weight of the larger rims and wheels also puts a great strain on your braking system too and will probably start warping the front rotors... just a few things to think about

I wouldn’t swap it into a third gen. Makes more sense to buy a first or 2nd gen with less electrical crap to deal with. My $0.02 after I’ve helped with a swap in a new(er) truck
