Is there a way to use a v8 transmission with my 4.0 liter supercharged engine? I already burned up one transmission with a urd supercharger and I had that transmission rebuilt by itp performance transmission but I'm afraid I'm going to kill that too.

Gen 1 tundras probably have some cross compatibility, they had a 4.0 v6 and 4.7 v8 as options.

Thats the one the tundra has, now that I think about it, I think its the one in the second gen tacoma too... so OP has a v8 trans?

What do you mean by "burned up" the transmission? What failed? Do you have a manual or automatic?

Just because one vehicle has the same model number does it mean all the internals are the same? It's just a question. Other MFG's will change internals based on application.

Too many trucks and mods to list.. check builds
The a750f in the tundras might be a little beefier. But I wouldn’t expect it to hold up much better to boost than the taco one. The 4.7 didn’t make gobs more power than a stock 4.0.

technically you can probably get a a760 to bolt up with an a750 bellhousing. But that’s a six speed and introduced many of the same issues. And the gear stack 1-5 is the same as the a750. So chances are it’s just as strong or potentially weaker than the 750

Burning up a trans and breaking one are 2 different things. Are you burning them up causing them to overheat or is the problem that your engine is putting out so much power that you are destroying the internals?

I destroyed the internals from having to much boost. my thoughts are that maybe there is a adapter plate that would allow me to connect a very strong automatic transmission that could hold up to 1000hp so i wont have any issues at all as far as boost.

You’re going to have a hard time getting an A750 to hold up to 700hp, let alone 1000hp.

The A750 is a strong transmission, it’s said to be good to about 450 TQ .

You would be better off doing a manual swap if you are shooting for 500+ hp/tq.

Why not just move to an LS and then trans choices aplenty?

how much power are you putting down and are you keeping the trans cool and fresh fluid in it.

I have seen @snowsk8air2 absolutely beat the crap outta his truck and i believe all hes done is the shift kit.... and hes been on 35's for a long time recently (like 2 yrs ago) on 37s

I've been beating the shit out of my truck and my trans that I did an IPT valve body upgrade on years ago. No issues with the trans. S/C'd with upgrades and putting out more boost than usual with 35s and a ton of weight. The stock trans with the IPT kit is still holding strong after like 8+ years and bangs through gears with solid engagement.

If IPT rebuilt the whole thing, and threw in those and or other upgrades.. I wouldnt be hesitant to run it.

Boost, armor, lights, big tires, no savings.
1GR FE and 1000Hp are contradictions.

I can't get my head around any of this.

I mean, I once toasted a trans with all of my 170HP, very much not boosted 3.3L engine. And it was absolutely 100% operator error.

And by "toasted" I mean I overheated it enough to blow the seals, exchange the trans fluid for the mud I was stuck in, and snapped the shift band. A tough lesson for the young and dumb.

But "I destroyed it from all my boosts" makes zero sense to me. I call bullshit.

Tranny cooler perhaps? Blowing a tranny and "burning it up" from a urd super charger is a pretty poor and vague description.

Normal driving I see about 160* from the transmission pan. Spirited driving it gets up to 180*-190*. I have a large aftermarket transmission cooler and the ratiotek shift kit. I remember seeing 210* before the cooler install on a hot summer day.

The older v8 tundras use the same transmission as ours.

Are you towing at all? I echo the thought that you might need better trans cooling/monitoring. Sometimes it’s easy to forget to tow in 4th gear and keep speed at 55mph or lower.

I installed this Hayden automotive cooler. It's about $40 on Amazon. I tapped it in line after the radiator cooler, just before the transmission.
