How do I find the part number for this air (vacuum?) hose? What does it do?

It connects an air box on the air cleaner to something on the manifold.

It connects the resonator to the fuel pressure regulator, part number: 17343-62090

you can also use any 1/4" vacuum tubing

For what it's worth, you might want to consider getting the kit from yota shop with all the vacuum lines for the 3.4l: https://www.yotashop.com/vacuum-hos...a-vacuum-hose-kit-1996-2001-kit-1106/#gallery

Edit: Here is a link to the Toyota parts page: https://parts.toyota.com/a/Toyota_2..._51507_6732946/VACUUM-PIPING/674460-1708.html

you'll want to select the 0009 drawing for the 3.4l tacoma.

Edit #2: There are also a few more vac lines in the ventilation hose sections (for the PCV and EGR): https://parts.toyota.com/a/Toyota_2...507_6733284/VENTILATION-HOSE/674460-1201.html diagram 0002

You can get the set in thick wall silicone red, black or blue for $36
Just have to measure and cut to fit.

You sure could, but they aren't bent all nice and stock like. That being said, pricing out the individual lines from an online dealer (using the part diagram I linked to) was much cheaper than the yota shop price- just took more time to add each item to the cart, etc...

Maybe this? Can't say for sure. This photo from 2000 PreRunner V-6, A/T. I got the parts number from the parts desk at local Toyota Dealer.
This is the original hose; it was slightly split at the 10 mm end, so I just trimmed off the split end and put it back on.
    PN 90445-14172 Hose, Engine.jpg
Note that the hose is unique in that one end is i.d. 10 mm, and the other end is i.d. 8 mm. (I measured!)
Likely an "off-the-shelf" ("Auto Zone-Rubber Hose") hose will not fit. Also, thin wall tubing will collapse as this tubing routes a vacuum.
Possibly the hose in OP's photo is split because it is actually an 8 mm hose trying to fit on a 10 mm fitting?

And, yes, sometimes when I discover a part number, I write it on the part.
Take your VIN and the photo to a Toyota Parts desk and they will look it up for you; no obligation to buy.

Good luck @dcubed. Let us know what works for you.

Oh, in answer to your question "What does it do?": It functions entirely to give you a panic attack at the parts counter when you find out the price PLUS SHIPPING.

I’d just get one of the shop kits from siliconeintakes and replace all the vacuum hoses. It’s like $50.

I think your dealer tried to pull one over on you. 90445-14172 has an MSRP of $60 bucks! 17343-62090 (which I can confirm fits my 2001 3.4L A/T 4WD Double Cab) is only $15 MSRP (or $11 online pricing).

I'll also add, that in the past, I have used the "marine" grade heat shrink tubing on the rubber vacuum lines when the ends split like that. The marine grade / heat shrink with glue in it will help seal the split ends much better than a few wraps of e tape, or having to trim the line shorter like you've done here.

Most of the vacuum lines on this truck can be replaced with universal vacuum hose. Even pre-formed hoses can be replaced with straight hose to a reasonable extent.

I think you're making a bigger mountain outta this than necessary. I have no problem putting in any amount of work necessary. I also stated in the first post that any 1/4" vacuum line would work. For completeness sake, I included a link to a whole pre-packaged kit. I too think the $250 is expensive for new lines- they are a lot cheaper from other online vendors if you piece the kit together yourself, so there is obviously a convenience factor charge built into it. Judging by the general inability of those searching on this site for part numbers, most folks aren't inclined to get their vin and head to the parts pages and find things themselves- so that kit might make sense for them.

Anf for what it's worth, I haven't actually been able to find a local parts store that has 1/4" or 5/16" vacuum line on the shelf. They're all happy to sell those sizes in fuel line, but that's not the right item- it might work, but it's not the right item. And I wouldn't want all brand new shiny silicone vac lines (from the internet) in my engine bay- I just don't need to give the guy performing the visual inspection during a smog check any reason to poke around more than necessary. So people might have more than one reason why they want OEM vac lines than just implied laziness.

17343-62090 is the correct part number for this hose, and it is a different diameter at each end. You should be able to get it for about $11.
