What capacity are you looking at carrying? It'd be a lot of work/complication for 5-10gal.

Thanks, that is the kind of input I needed, b/c I have never read about that kind of reinforcement. That is my biggest concern with doing anything like this (proper weight distribution). Frontrunner makes some narrow profile tanks that sit at the front of the bed, which could still be an option, but once again wanted to avoid losing even that much space in the bed if I can. Should have bought a long bed dammit..ha ha.

I will have the spare on the rear swing out, which the total weight of that set up will vary from 200 to 250 lbs and mounted out of the receiver for the foreseeable future. I am still retaining the stock bumper for now.

If I am going to go through with this, it's going to have to be 10 gallons capacity or more I figure, otherwise it's not worth it. Especially with the wife requesting some sort of shower capability down the road.

I’m also looking for water tanks. I currently am using a Waterport mounted to the bed rail. It’s just for spraying off the kids after a beach day. One of the narrow Front Runner tanks against the cab would be best, but they are too tall for what I want. Tyler at NW Conversions sells wheel well tanks for Sprinters. He said one of the models does fit the Tacoma.

I’m keeping my spare in the factory location. Drilled two more holes for the mounting bracket and moved it forward an inch which allows me to fit a 33” under there.

Check out the Joolca HotTap system. You could carry three Jerry cans of water and use that for showers and dishes. Then remove it easily when you’re not camping.

I'm looking for a 5-6 gal water tank that can in the back of the rear seat in the DCSB Tacoma. My buddy recently made a 5 gal solar shower out of PVC pipe for his 4runner. Think this one is well documented how to build on youtube. With 5 gallons of water 4 people showered on our last trip.

Anyone know of a trapazoid-ish watertank that can dfit behind the seat?

Just for a point of reference, I used to have a Frontrunner water tank in the Goose Gear setup. Before that, I had a blue water storage tank. The new setup will be a bellybox water storage tank under the flatbed.

Plus one for Joolca. Mine is supposed to be shipped this week. My water tank idea is to use two Reliance 7gal cans with the Joolca. Then I can take the can down to the river where I filter water. This seems much better than having a permanently installed tank.

I will do a write up on the Joolca once I get it installed.

The only thing I have seen is some type of tank (FrontRunner?) that lays across the floor of the rear passengers in the double cab. I haven't seen anything off-the shelf for putting behind the rear seats, but someone with a laser scanner could create a CAD file for a welder to make an aluminum one.

I have one (borrowed) and got to try it yesterday. Pretty well built, especially that sealed water pump.

I believe expedition essentials is making a water tank that mounts to the spare location from their IG posts.

I have to agree this is where I am headed as far as having a shower, but I have to say, I am trying to figure out what is better about the Joolca than the existing on demand systems out there. I believe their base system is still $269 (and that doesn't include the pump system you need if you don't have a pressurized tank). EZ Tankless units like this below, only run about $180 and have the same flow/footprint & weight, so you may be able to save yourself a few bucks.

    https://www.homedepot.com/p/EZ-Tank...DNrwQn_xejDaAiRA5UxoCUE8QAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

Their whole package is definitely slick though, don't get me wrong, but I'd say you can do just as well on your own.

Have you looked at any of the water bladders? They come in all kinds of different sizes and shapes.

I saw recently a company that makes a tank for the spare tire location, you can stack three using the factory spare tire hanger. Seems like it would be a pain to fill etc tho vs one larger tank if EXE is making one that would be better. That’s still quite a bit of weight behind the axel.

@belloinsella Ironman4x4 America had some pretty good looking water tanks on their site that were on sale not long ago that may be worth checking out.

@SenatorBlutarsky I’m not sure if the GFC DCLB rack spec is the same one that @Ripcord used, most likely is. Sounded like they were just going to do the two sizes to start

Found these Yakima setup on Offerup and it came with the landing pads, crossbars, towers, locks, and 2 extra towers and landing pads. Score!

Threw them on the Drifter and they fit the L-track perfectly.

New mental note: Drifter clearance is now 7’7”.

I can...are you planning on copying the Vagabond frame? Or do you want interior bed dimensions for a buildout?
