So I bought a Queen 2" Serene Foam Topper (better than memory foam). https://www.costco.com/comfort-tech-serene-foam-2"-mattress-topper.product.100482550.html

Cut it to match the Drifter mattress. Put my comforter and two pillows up there as I usualy do and tried to close the Drifter. Couldnt close it. I closed it with heavy force but I do not want to stress the hinges. $130 bucks down the drain, cant return it since its cut. :(

Anyone want to buy this foam topper for $60? Let me know. My loss your gain.

Need to go back to the drawling board what to make the OEM mattress more comfy or buy a all new mattress all together.

Sorry… So far the best pad I've tried is the Exped DeepSleep (3") and allows full sheets & down comforter with the lid to close.

With the Exped Megamat (3.9" thick), only sheets fit and maybe a thinner blanket.

I checked them and they do not seem to have a 48” wide mattress. 30.3” is all I see.

While the supplied Drifter mattress is 48” wide, there are several more inches of width available with how the “body” of the camper is shaped.

Here’s a photo of the Exped MegaMat (3.9” thick, 52”x77.6”) fits:

this is the standard hight Mount. I wasn’t aware there was a longer version but I don’t think I would opt for that in our set up

Thank you it will be on the top of my list to try next. Since I spent $130 on the topper and basically wasted my money want to make sure the next purchase I make will work in all categories.

How comporatble is the Exped mat compared to the original Drifter mat?

    It's night and day difference.
The Exped MegaMat is like sleeping at home on my nice mattress, but at 3.9" I was a bit bummed about not being able to store the comforter up there. I think the first time I inflated it, I just got the perfect pressure because I never adjusted it.
The Exped DeepSleep I am currently testing is almost as comfortable (I haven't found the right pressure yet with the air inside), but at almost 1" thinner it allows me to store the comforter up there, which helps a lot in the short bed that I haven't done any interior / storage build-out yet.

Yeah wish Vagabond would make 2 or so inches more for available storage
Once you inflate the mat does it keep the same pressures? In my experience from previous mats there is always a pressure loss overtime. Do you keep it inflated all the time?

Wish Vagabond would of make the top thicker to allow more storage room up there for thicker mattress, blankets, pillows, etc etc.

I do leave it inflated. Part of the benefit of the Drifter is that you park, unlatch two latches, push up, slide a platform forward and you can go to bed. This is why I'm trying the options to figure out what works best and lets me leave bedding up top so I don't have to do any extra work.

I don't, because then it would be a giant top-hat on the truck like the AT Summit/Habitat.

Hi! Long time lurker, first time poster :)

I'm looking to see how y'all attach a rope or pull tab or handle to the inside of the tailgate (I'm tired of closing it and crawling in like a stink bug)
    Thank you!

Very easy! I got these off Amazon (Seattle Sports I think they were from) and mounted them to two places on the tailgate through the metal grommets on each handle. One thing to keep in mind is that the stock hardware (that holds the factory tailgate cover) is pretty cheap & screws into plastic inserts. When I made the flat aluminum tailgate cover below, I also replaced all this hardware w/ Rivnuts & sturdier 1/4-20 bolts (@Mobtown Offroad sells a nice kit for this). I am not saying the stock screws won't hold over time, but just keep that mind since you will be yanking the whole weight of the tailgate with the pull strap a lot.

I’m about to make an extension too. I keep smacking my head on the roof.

Great idea and thanks for the idea!

It doesn't require any electricity, it is simply a fireplace. I'm having one put in my Alu-cab next month.
