MJ, Thanks for your report. Makes us glad we taped the holes and upgraded to the KB Voodoo rail caps in preparation for ours. Seems like an essential step, along with the bed stiffeners.

I know of a few places with forklifts. You’d just need to have all of your parts on hand to do the fixes in a timely manner as not to hold up their business. I’m sure we can work something out if you’re willing to travel a bit.
Feel free to dm me and let’s see if we can get it arranged.

thanks man! I'll probably need to get new KB sides so when that happens I may take you up on that. I have a road trip deadline so I'm going to give a go at trying to seal from underneath (via the bed cubbies) with crack filler and flex seal.

For those of you who made a bedplate, what did you use for paint? I read somewhere that bed-liner isn't very healthy for enclosed spaces, and i want to moisture proof the ply.

    FTFY ;)

Also, I used Herculiner for my platform. It works great. Just make sure you dry it for a couple of days before putting it in.

Speaking of sealing beds, I have quite the challenge ahead of me. One of which I have absolutely no idea how I'm going to tackle. So ideas are very welcomed.

But hey, I think I'll be the first bed caged Drifter out there if I can pull this off.

Maybe like a sheet of some ~1/8" rubber material with a hole to fit really snug over the shock body, and then sandwich it (bolt it?) between the wheel well and a contoured aluminum/steel plate?
And then from the looks of it, you could probably get away with just butyl tape or some other sealant around the tubing.

Couple other ideas, but they would involve enclosing it from the top, which would leave each side open to the road and probably invite a lot of build-up & corrosion.

I would suggest heat moldible plastic or even Kydex.

Enclose the whole area up to the bedside over the hoop, rubber seal the cross bar to the plastic.

If it were me I would open up the holes around the shocks so you can get wrenches up there from underneath if you are planning on building out the interior of the bed to match the Drifter. It would suck to have to pull the full interior build out to pull a shock for a rebuild/revalve.

I actually thought this exact same thought. If the bed is already cut, might as well make it large enough to access from below. I have a friend who does fiberglass work and have considered something similar to what you suggested by just enclosing the whole thing. It doesn't seem too difficult of a challenge, just need to get creative.

I figure under the cross bar is where I'll put either a smaller shelving/storage area or build something in that sort of "dead space" to house my solar batteries. Once it's fully built out, my hope is that the bed cage will literally disappear.

    She ain't stock anymore.
Hey folks, I officially put down my deposit yesterday. It's going to be a long ~6 months! I'm reading through the thread now, and seeing some seriously killer set ups. Is there any kind of prep work you all would recommend? I see lots of people mentioning the KB Voodoo side rail caps, but not really sure what benefit they offer over stock. Another thing I'm wondering about is my shark fin, is there going to be an issue with clearance?

I like that idea a lot. May as well turn that area into a little storage space. I'm sure you've thought of it, but you'll definitely wanna seal your battery from the elements if you keep it near the bed cage with openings to the road. I had an inverter on my van's house battery die because it was just sitting out in the van and I got snow on it.

I plan on replacing my shark fin with a low profile antenna, I saved the link so let me see if I can find it.

Anyone have 3rd gen kb voodoo bed rail install instructions? I picked up a set from @Porter707 and emailed @KB Voodoo but they never got back to me.
