That's right. Pushbutton ignition is not available with a manual transmission. I have a 2021 manual transmission truck, and it came with two Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) keys. Since the glove box is keyed the same as the ignition, door lock, and tail gate, there is no "valet key."

I had two extra transponder keys (non-RKE) made at the dealer (simply because they were cheaper than RKE keys). They are fully functional for every use except locking/unlocking the doors remotely (that is, from a few feet away).

The RKE keys are a very slight convenience as compared to the non-RKE keys. Actually, the main convenience of a RKE key is in being able to lock/unlock the passenger side door without opening the driver's side door first. And that's only because Toyota didn't bother to put a lock cylinder in the passenger side door.

I too have a 6MT and have not given up on finding a true valet key. There were a few part numbers from past years, but I have not been able to confirm them.

I did this with my spare fob which I keep in a jacket. The truck still recognized the key fob when it was in the truck and wouldn't let me lock the truck.

The valet key will get you in the manual locks. What I did when I went snorkeling is I locked the truck and stuck the fob in the storage cubby in the bed, which was then locked (after confirming the truck wouldn't unlock or start with it there). I used the valet key to lock the tailgate (I had a hard tonneau cover on top) and then double checked everything. No problems.

You would have to change (or re-key) the cylinder on the glove box. You could find a Tacoma in a junk yard, and pull the glove box lock. Then have a locksmith make a key to open it. (Or, just have the locksmith re-key your glove box.) Your regular keys would then become "valet keys."

The whole presumption of "valet keys" is that the glove box is not keyed exactly the same as the door and ignition locks on the vehicle.

Yes, but in a case like that all of my keys would be valet keys and there would not be a key that does all. In other words, I would need 2 keys: one for the ignition and a different one for the glove box which would not start the truck. A true valet key starts the truck but does not open the glove box. The regular key does both. I want a true valet key to give to the valet and then not have to deal with 2 keys to start the truck and open the glove box. These were available until very recently. This is the first vehicle I have had in 30 years that does not have one.
