Sweet! I like the sound of unique and bad ass. Like I said before, I want to keep it rather simple also. I think it wont look as good if we try to make it super complex plus it will be easier to design/build and less chance for mistakes.

One objective I would like to complete however, is desirable coverage. I dont want all the undercarriage to be all visible. I would like to incorporate the diamond plating in a way that it hides much of the frame, springs, and other stuff down there. It doesnt need to be completely covered and even if that turns out to not be a practicle idea, thats ok too.

I'll try to bust out my drawing skills that I dont have to get my ideas on paper too.

Absolutely chop it back to the shackle hangers as far as we can go.

    Thanks man!

Okay I gotchya. I'm thinking we should bring Jeff in on this, he is a pretty good fabber and i know he has helped with the making of at least one flatbed in the past.

I've been getting tons of pics and figuring out shit in my head today. I will attempt to draw something up that incorporates the tool box. And since we will be chopping it you will probably want a spare tire mount? I was thinking one that would angle the tire about 35-40* up from the bed. Not sure if you know what i mean but I will show you pics soon

Something like this. Maybe not the exact location. Or maybe not at all. My mind is running a million miles a minute right now. We'll figure it out :D no matter what it is gonna be bad ass on a 2nd gen

So back to MY truck thread  I just found a aussie locker for 100...thinking i'm a gonna buy it:cool: that would bring my total cost of front clamshell to 430 which will drop another 100 or so when i sell my stock clamshell  compared to the original plan of ECGS which would have been about 950 for brand new shit that would probably be sold in the next year or two after i find a solid axle:)

Now I just need to save money for the pricey part...e locker 4.88 3rd...

That spare tire mount sounds like what I was thinking. And I'm thinking I may need a different tool box to make this work better - one that doesnt hang on the bedsides.

Ya I like the one in that pic too - seems very practicle and similar to what I was thinking about. Check out my post on page 2 of this already started thread http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd-gen-tacomas/117151-2nd-gen-flatbed-2.html#post5077500 . I did some more research and included some better examples. We should probably continue this discussion on that page so we're not clogging up your build page.

Haha really? I musta been going through Shasta or near there around then. Thank you, yours is pretty sick too, wish I had seen it. I drive back and forth from scott valley to redding so much that I just zone out on the drive now adays and don't notice shit.

I guess my truck is pretty easy to spot after the paint job :D

Looks good! No room for a winch? Or are you going to put a receiver there?

There should be. I need to borrow my neighbors soon and fit it in there. It will be tucked in SUPER tight. Probably cut out some of the grill. I wanted the most clearance as possible

sweet. im going to do some more chopping on my grill to allow more room for the control box because I wanna raise my bumper slightly higher to get rid of the excessive gap. And to do this, I (maybe we) are going to trim some material off my bumper near the endpoints to allow more clearance where it hits the fenders. Basically, there is not enough gap between the fenders and too much of a gap up front.

But I'm sure yours is gonna look sick. I'm excited for the new look!

 I am short 1 3/4 inches. to fit a winch. played with the idea of a receiver but decided I wouldn't like the look. Gonna chop the fucker off this weekend and modify. Will be the same bumper just have to move it forward and then re do the angles on the sides. Don't have pics of what it looks like now almost finished but the one thing i'm glad of is I added a BIG stinger

    Break time!

Here it was before I cut it all off :(

I only moved it out the bare minimum. When I get a winch I will still need to do a lot of grill cutting.
