Hello, I have a chance to purchase a 2006 Tacoma trd 4x4. extended cab long bed 4.0 with the 6 speed manual. Has 130k miles with damage to the tailgate and rips in driver side seat. I have an idea of what I want to offer the guy but want to know what you all think its worth. Paint is silver, has road terrain tires, and is pretty much completely stock. thanks

Since it’s an 06, I’d ask the guy if it he ever experienced any coolant loss?
05-06 have been know to have Head Gasket issues.
Some say Later model 06’ have the newer gasket?
But there isn’t a definitive date.
If you are really serious look in the coolant over flow tank for signs of exhaust gas. Open the radiator cap and have a look.

Look at the frame as well.

Maybe even have a shop look it over.

In case he isn’t up on Tacoma’s just mention to him about the head gasket issue so he knows to specifically check that.

I knew they carried their value but that's pretty good for an earlier model second gen

I wouldnt buy a 05-06 V6 personally, most require major overhauls. If not the headgasket, the timing chain.

Just check frame just in case. Head gasket for sure.

With that many miles and in California you may be looking at around $10-$13k for that condition. If private sale maybe lower on a deal.

The early 4runners with the 4.0 usually get mega quotes and shy away from dealers when the check engine lights come on.

I wish the 4.0 was easier to work on, but its a ton of work.

Look at the production date on the door jamb sticker. It is rumored that around 11/05 is when they changed to the updated head gasket. If it was built in '06, there is considerably less risk of head gasket failure.
