    How hard is it to change a valve cover gasket on a 98 Tacoma 4 cy

    On my 1987 2.7l motor, over-tightening the valve cover nuts resulted in noisy valves. That's because the cover nuts attached to threaded studs that were screwed into the cam hold-downs. Over-tightening the nuts would lift up the camshaft ever-so-slightly, causing additional clearance between the cam lobes and the valves.

    I believe that at some time later this method of securing the covers was changed to screws around the bottom lip of the cover that went into the head itself and not into the valve train components.
