I'd highly recommend going to your local AutoZone/O'Reilly's/Napa/Checkers to get a digital micrometer. I did this job last year and started with the same manual style one. Wasted a whole day, then went to O'Reilly's and picked up a digital one and cranked out both my truck and a friend's truck in 4 hours the following day.

That being said I'm pretty sure it reads: 0.0371"

This link/video ^^^ may help use the manual one you've got. But do yourself the favor and get the digital one.

I’m embarrassed but will admit I switched to a digital micrometer 10-15 years ago.

Unless used frequently it creates a chance for error.

I can read one, but I end up doubting myself and usually google how to read it again just as a precaution.

Digital is the answer. (In this case)

I'm getting 0.137. I've watched alot of videos and reading how to for hours. Not getting anywhere this has been a last resort to ask.

    .137 + .1122 + .0371 = .2863/3 = .0954 avg answer

I think the 3 different answers highlights the problem. Go digital buddy.

That being said the increments on the sleeve are .025", and the sleeve is just past "1". Meaning the first (of three) numbers that need be added is .025". So you can't have anything but a zero as the first number to the right of the decimal.

This does not sound correct. Each of those small ticks is .025, and we’ve got the thimble moves past four of them, which gives us 0.1 for the first digit.

OP do you have a set of feeler gauges? Use that as a known value to read the micrometer.

Yup, just double checked and you're right. I stand corrected. Knowing that I'm getting .1015" though.

    .100"
    .0012"
    +.0003"
    = .1015"

0.1122 is what I'm seeing but it's hard to be exact from that angle because the 2 seems to be inline but could be off.
