    Which model Nest is that?

I've been looking into Nest to retrofit my entire house. Cameras, thermostat, lighting, etc.

I have replaced my grill and lights. Very simple. Not sure if you were planning on having them do it or not, but you can get it knocked out in an hour or two tops.

Can confirm, at least for the grill it really is. Lights are a bit more fussy because you need to pop the bumper partially off which can be a bit hair-rasing.

I'd be all about getting an insurance check with $930 for labor and the doing the work myself. Mods time!

On a completely unrelated note. I've got a TRD pro grille with a few broken tabs for sale, Bay Area.

Kidding dude, that sucks though. I had someone smash my back window a few weeks ago. I'd also throw my vote in for the Nest Outdoor cams. I just bought 4 and love them. Gives me a little piece of mind when I'm not home.IMG_0620.jpg

I did some research on video surveillance for the residence but in the end concluded for myself that putting up some dummy cameras would serve just as well as far as deterrence. Getting some image of a tweaker fucking with your truck isn't going to do much unless you find out it's someone you know. Majority of the time it's some random perp and the imagery (if it's even worth a damn) probably isn't going to allow you to actually positively ID or track the loser down. Spend your money as you wish. Getting imagery of some dirtbag, unless it's shared on the nightly news, isn't likely to result in much. Yeah you'll know what he/she looks like but like I said, the probability of that leading to an arrest is low.

I think there were studies proving that just having a Home Security sign out in your front yard (or sticker on windows) can be a powerful deterrent for would-be burglars. Just like a dog barking. Who wants to fuck with the house that could be alarmed or get bit by a dog when you can just go to the next house that has no deterrence?

Sure that's something you could try if you suspect someone is messing with you. Like I said I looked into installing a high-res (quality) surveillance recording system. The amount of work to do it myself vs. the cost of parts/materials vs paying someone else to do it.... It just didn't weigh well against the conclusions of my personal research. From my career background I have a large group of friends and (a fairly sizeable network) with folks who work for/with local and federal law enforcement agencies, I sought some respected professional opinions and ultimately it just wasn't worth it to me. Everyone will certainly have their own opinions and draw their own conclusions on it. Hey whatever makes you sleep better at night!

Good thoughts. And FYI...I work for the largest law enforcement agency in my great state. Many of the guys/gals suggested game cams as an alternative.
