some little t urds in my nice neighborhood hit 8 vehicles one night, mine caught the worst of it. can not find anyone to work on the thing in this little redneck county and toyota wont touch it bc the a zz hat insurance wrote ' total loss ' on the quote even though its not a total.. so its on me. problem is for me, the frame at the hinge attach points is tweaked and i need a new door.. ive looked all over the interwebs and feel discouraged and the salvage places are the same sleaze that i remember as a kid.. does anyone know the skinny on how to buy good body parts? thank you thank you

cheapest way to get a door is probably to go to a pick and pull and find one in nice shape then have it painted to match, same with that gas cap. The broken stalk should be pretty easy to replace. Sorry to hear this happened to you but it doesn't look beyond repair, hardest part will be the door hinge, I'd have a body shop fix the hinge and paint your new door to match and the rest of it should be a simple diy

thanks randy... im worried about the door frame and the local body shops here are unmotivated drunks. someone mentioned something about buying ' insurance quality ' parts and i still have not found out about this terminology. was wondering if there is a line on parts that only repair shops can get at ... thanks again

Damn sorry to see it. Will you get anything from insurance? Looks like you can potentially fix, any good welders in your area maybe? good luck mate.

I highly doubt there is much if anything wrong with the door frame, and if so a good body shop should be able to fix it very easily. The best quality parts you can get will be used OEM from a pick and pull or full service scrap yard, I personally wouldn't accept anything other than factory parts. I also live in rural area with the same kind of incompetent drunk and drugged up body shop techs so I'd definitely recommend going to a more populated area and finding a competent body shop.

It's not a total because it's not repairable. It's a total because the cost to repair + the projected salvage value exceeds the value of the truck.

Car-Part.com is your friend. Someone out there will have a good door for the truck. You can do most of those repairs yourself, but repairing the hinge pillar properly requires some experience/know-how and some specific equipment. The problem is, anyone doing such a repair for you will need the door as well, because the door will have to be test fit several times as the pillar is repaired.

It does not take much to stretch/tweak/buckle the pillar in the hinge mounting areas when the door is overextended like that.

You might want to take a look down behind where the gas cap was to see if those little pricks put anything into the tank.

CAPA(sp) parts, cheap parts the insurance industry says are good enough so they don't have to shell out for OEM parts

Try car-part.com do you live in Texas? That state seemed to be really respectable at one time and I highly considered moving there but man seems like it’s becoming another California my condolences

Car-Part.com is a good site to find salvage parts in your area. You may have to drive a little if your local yards suck.

car-part.com is a great site. Lots of body shops use that site to get the parts they need.

thanks everyone for the kind words.. to answer a few yes the insurance gave me $6100 and promised not to mess with the title, and of course Texas Farm Bureau dropped me from coverage along with my home, s crew t hem. the female adjuster on the phone was snarky as h.ell and clueless, the type of person that would cut herself with a hammer... and the inspector (mr 24 years in the industry) missed the door frame tweaking. i discovered after pulling the hinge. he wrote up new hinges but those things are hardy as all heck.. so yeah, i got to massage that into place.. that part im a little anxious about. im sure ill find someone to paint when i get the frame and the door worked out.. the turn indicator and headlight control was very easy, bot sides used on ebay from hawaii of all places, $70 delivered ... yeah, im mad is f uq.. the hood knows who the little p unks are but what can you do. its a quiet lake community with about 7 real trashy families.. a case of the have-nots attacking the haves or some tik-tok type nonsense thanks again everyone

The door itself is actual not that expensive. You can find an oe door shell online for $475-600. Then by two hinges are like $60 ea.

You can have my rear sliding window when I remove it over the summer. Going windowless with a gasket to the cap like I did with my ‘84 a long, long time ago

Definitely a good idea. I’ve heard stories of sugar in the gas, rice in the radiator.
