I just wanted to make a post on a few things I have noticed on my 3rd gen Tacoma over the last year.

2016 Tacoma - Silver, double cab, trd sport, 4x4, fully loaded with all options.

Little bugs here and there. All seem to be fixable, just wanted to see if others have had any of these issues.

    1. The first is the front passenger side dash. It squeaks really bad by the pillar and speaker. I had to have the dealership place a foam insert to keep it tight and movement free. The sound was quite loud and VERY annoying. Recently, the other side now seems to be making plastic squeaks and rattles. I will wait a little bit and see what happens with that one.

    2. This is a cosmetic thing, but the glass or plastic panel covering the instrument cluster (speedometer, ect.) scratches so easily. When it got dusty the first time, I very gently padded it down with a microfiber cloth and it scratched it to death. Haha. It looks pretty bad when sun is shining on it. I have read others noticed this too. Can this be replaced by chance?

    3. Drivers seat. I have noticed that my seat is really breaking down on me. (Material wise) It just does not seem to be holding up very well at all. I wear dress pants most of the time getting in and out of the truck, but the stitching and cloth seems to really getting worn on. I expect wear and tear over time naturally, but only having the truck barely a year and having stitching and fabric wear already is surprising. Has anyone else noticed this at all? (I am a 23 year old male that wears dress attire for work and weighs 150lb by the way) I am pretty careful about not dragging in and out while entering and exiting, but who knows..

    4. Shifting - I know this is a known issue, but hopefully the hunting for gears issue gets better over time. Toyota seems to be actively working on this issue.

So far, I think that's all I have. It's a great truck! I am very interested in the TRD PRO! One day, maybe! Let me know if you guys have any thoughts on the above!

Please post anything you guys have noticed on your 3rd gens!
    #TeamToyota

    Thanks!!

Search is your friend on #4, get the TSB done.

Curious to know which plant your Taco is built from? My observations were that the the ones from Baja are the shittiest and the Texas ones were marginally OK.

My '16 had noticable transmission issues including the fluid being low.

My '17 has been better but it needed the TSB too and now it's great.

Sub'd to see if anyone has a good replacement for the plastic/glass covering the speedometer. Mine too was scratched to hell when I used a high quality (chem bros) microfiber on it. I've used this thing all over my truck and no scratches so this thing must be cheap.... not a big deal but a replacement for cheap that would allow me to clean it without scratching it would be nice....

On the seats... seat covers are your friend. but yeah, they should be coming apart on a relatively new vehicle regardless of your use. I went w/ Coverking Neoprene and they've worked out well.

Same here....dealer replaced the seat cover under warranty. Now I'm EXTRA careful and use my step going in AND out. I figure it this one breaks down i'm in for some Clazzios or the like.

I think you have a couple options for the cluster lens. First, I used some plastic polish from Griot's and it helped quite a bit. I can still notice light scratches in the right light but much better. It's easiest to remove the silver or orange dash trim first. Second, I think I saw that a new lens was about a $20-$30 part to replace. I'm not sure yet how simple it is to snap on or off because I haven't tried yet. If it's simple that would be a good option. You might risk dust getting in there if you pull the lens I guess. Let us know if you learn anything about replacing the cluster lens.

For the seat wear issue I went to reach for the drivers side grab handle so I can ease myself in and it wasn't there. Who would have thunk that such a little problem would caused such seat wear.

I am hoping they add the driver side grab handle back on the 2018 so I can add 1 to mine.

It looks like the hardware is there, under the driver's side A-pillar, to bolt the handle to. Unless I saw it wrong. Now we just need the pillar trim to incorporate the handle.

1 of the holes is threaded and the other spot just needs a nut-sert

after reading about how easily the instrument cluster scratches up with even the finest of microfiber cloths...

i had a lint roller in my truck for the purpose of lint removal but now I use it to dab dust and dirt of the cluster. seems to work and not scratch that thing up.

I use some sort of Swiffer Duster and surprisingly it has not scratched yet.

I don't remember seeing the screw bosses on the pillars to accommodate that in the future when I had my DR side pillar trim off. :(
Just the cover for the single bolt behind the SRS cap.
