Me and my wife went out to Asheville, NC for a few days of good food and beer. We did a few little easy trails and checked out Buzzard's Roost. I haven't been to the Grand Canyon yet or any of the other amazing spots I see on here all the time but for a coastal flat lifer, this was a pretty crazy lookout over 40 North.

Damn, that’s a road down there!? I was scrolling through your post and I was like “oh that’s a cool little stream”, then I zoomed in haha

Yeah! It's both a highway and a stream down there haha. I'm not much for heights and stepping out on that rock on the side of of a cliff was pretty crazy.

That’s awesome man. That view reminds me a lot of Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park.

If this trip did anything it made me realize how much I have to regear this thing and get it tuned. It was terrible with cruise control on the highway once we got closer to the mountains.

I believe it man, a tune is almost essential on these trucks with any sort of added weight. I have the KDMaxx tune. I got it done after I had about 5K miles on the truck and I was kicking myself for not getting it sooner.

I’m running 265/75/16 tires at the moment but I’m about a second away from pulling the trigger on a set of skinny 33’s. The 265’s just feel too small. Hopefully the fact that they’re skinny will mean I don’t need a regear. I’m still trying to talk myself out of the purchase though lol

IDK what counts as skinny but I feel like mine are skinny. With 33s and a ton of weight I'm beyond in need of it.

I think the general consensus is “skinny” would be something like 255/85/16.

I got the rock lights on the other day. These are just some cheapos from Amazon but they are super bright. I have more that I will probably install front/middle/back once I find a good spot.

    img_2404-large.jpg

I also tried my hand at soldering and tapping aluminum to make a breaker mount. It came out decent for my first try but after installing I realized it's just too tight and could be a safety issue. I'm going to redo this soon to allow for the wire terminals and to be farther from the screws. Prototypes right?

I got a KDMax tune done today and it’s so much smoother. I can’t wait to get it reversed with the tune adjusted. Should be amazing.

Yeah it's about an inch thicker. No problems with it. I've used it a handful of times now. It was about $100 less.

Man I haven't posted in forever. Lots of life and career stuff happening. However, the weather has finally gotten nicer and I've been able to get back on the truck. I finally got the water plumbed but I'm having a few issues with it and will need to rework some of it. All the electrical is now hooked up now minus the side door lighting. I have an issue with one of the LED strips and will need to order some more. I picked up a used awning and ARB room and was able to try it out this weekend along with a cot I picked up and I have to say it's so worth the setup time.

I drove from Virginia Beach out to West Virginia and met a friend 1/2 way there. In total about 6hrs and we explored Canaan Loop first. It was pretty basic but had some really nice camping spots and shallow streams. Sunday morning we did Canyon Rim which was a lot more fun but both were relatively short and easy. The weather was supposed to be spotty but ended up being one of the most perfect weekends ever.

I was looking at some trails on the map yesterday and thinking about making my next day trip be one to Canaan Loop and Canyon Rim. Do you feel like it was worth the drive out there?

I guess it depends on where you're located.

I’m the same distance from there as you, just not in VB.

The most popular trail out from me is Union Springs / Flagpole which is 3.5hrs. This was another 2.5 from me. It was worth going to see once but I would not do that overnight again. If I went again, I would make it a stop on a 2-3 day trip. 6hrs is a lot of driving time to get to a destination that you'll be doing more driving.

Flagpole knob and union springs are pretty nice! I agree, I felt like there was way too much to explore there for it to just be a day trip.

I finally got around to doing a few things to the truck in an attempt to try and get it "close to finished" even though I know there will be more fun stuff to do. The water is finally done and isn't leaking. I've cleaned up all the lines and secured them behind the grill. I've also got more of the electrical and air run. Today I installed airbags as the truck is definitely sagging when fully loaded for a weekend. This will allow me to adjust it as I unload firewood and water etc.

I know the water looks a little squirrely. Here is some insight. I'm using a Seaflo pump and it's something I saw in a van build. It's definitely too big but I was able to adjust the pressure down some. On the first go, I used 1/2 tubing and barb fittings. I had all the clamps extremely tight and water was still squirting out.

I decided to switch to air tubing which I could get in a recoil option. This worked great for the 7' slide out. It also allowed me to get everything screwed in with no binding on the tubing. Finally, the ins and outs look a little messy. This is mounted on a hatch so it needs to be able to move freely AND when closed fit in the 2" of space against the back. So while it looks a little crazy it's actually very tight and moveable. On the right you can see the supply coming in to a T which splits to the hot and cold output. Hot water comes out of the left T and there is a spot to hook up the shower hose later. I just don't need it right now.

The last thing back here will be propane. I need to split that to the heater and out to the bumper for easy connection on the grill and future firepit. I will probably run a 8' or so line from the right back corner, under the heater and out to the driver's side to the bumper or frame somewhere.

    IMG_3562 Large.jpg

    IMG_3563 Large.jpg

Air and power are run through the removable panel for the LED options. This is less of a permanent mod if I ever want to revert this stuff.

    IMG_3566 Large.jpg

Airbags and cradles installed. Even with just 5# of air in I got an inch back on the lift already. Looking back I should have gone with something heavier than the RXTs but live and learn. This will be perfect though. I'm just waiting for the controller to arrive tomorrow.

Everything is hooked up and working great. At 20# I have 2" back.
