As much as it's going to annoy me... My parents are looking for an extended cab 4wd tacoma or pickup in the $5k-10k range. I've told them to stay away from the older 3.0L platform since 3.4L swap will not be something they will ever tackle. Told them if they're going pre-tacoma go with the 4 cylinder and if going tacoma platform get the 3.4L. I think they'd prefer auto trans but if it's manual it wouldn't be a deal breaker.

So... That said, if anyone knows of something in good shape for a good price I'm watching. I think they'd prefer something relatively stock mostly cause the likely hood of offroad abuse probably isn't as high as a built truck.

    Thanks,
    Khris

Anyone local have a 3.4L with the first gen all silver super charger on it? I looked at one tonight and I've never had any experience with a supercharger in general let alone that one and well, at idle, engine open. I wouldn't say it made a knock or a click or anything but it made a noise I'm not familiar with. Definitely wasn't the blower type whine which I could hear for sure when I test drove it. Closest thing I guess I would say was it had a very minor almost sounding knock but it was a very dull type almost thud type of knock. Any idea if that's normal?

Also, I wasn't exactly blown away by the power? This was a 4wd, 3.4L manual with the supercharger and it was on probably 33" tires with stock gearing and while it got up and went, it just wasn't the power house I guess I'd expected it to be. In comparison I'm used to a completely stock 3.4L auto in an '04 on 35's running 6.0 gears and it honestly felt comparable. I know the 6.0 gears in our truck gives kind of some hard fake acceleration but I was expecting more out of it being supercharged.

    Any thoughts?

Yea a bit of general input. It's still just a 3.4 stock pistons etc. Can't put too big of an SC without blowing it up. Look in the performance sub-forum, things go boom. I can imagine with the big tires, no regearing and the SC I wouldn't be impressed. I have a 2014 with the SC and the low end torque is sooo much better, it gets up and scoots! That's awesome for off roading. Ask the owner if he'll regear with 6.0 for comparison, LOL.

In summary it's not a 350 V8 with an SC, with flat top pistons and headers etc. Read around about the actual HP improvements but look at the low end, it's pretty impressive.

Ohh go to one of the Tacoma meets n greets in Vegas, you can ask them.... And meet the coolest folks in the world... Tacoma owners.

Thanks for the feedback... I guess I had just read or heard in many places that the TRD s/c setups were getting about 80 additional hp and I just figured it would be a noticeable difference. Even my last toyota which was a 3.4L, 5 speed manual, 33" tires, 5.04 gears seemed to have as much as this truck did if not more in all honesty.

Yeah, I may hit up one of the BBT meets eventually. I'd like to actually attend one of their runs with our tacoma maybe this summer once it's ready for testing again.

Funny on convincing the seller to swap in some 6.0 gears for comparison purposes!!! LOL

Speaking of 6.0's... Just got our 3rd back over the weekend freshly built and ready to install for break in later this week. Waiting on deaver to ship our leafs back fresh and ready for install. Hoping to have our truck 100% finished from the firewall to the back bumper by end of this weekend and then next week focus on prepping the front so I can get it out testing early/mid June.
