    Well, the government lets people camp on the land since they own it for the benefit of the *people*. When a *person* owns the land they very naturally aren't going to let people camp on the land - if nothing else liability exposure makes it impractical. So yeah, if you are looking for a place to camp you prefer land owned by the government. Both kinds of ownership need to exist. Doesn't seem that hard to understand really...

    In the west you can off road and drive camp explore the land. It can still he farmed, ranches and used for industry.

    In Texas there is no public land other than a few parks with a lot of rules and fees. There is no place to camp unless you find a private RV park to pay to put a tent packed right next to a bunch of other people.

    Imagine all the spots you like to go become privately owned, someone fenced it off and developed. All the roads get paved over.

    Having the open country to explore are things we take for grand living where we do.

    As somebody who lived in Texas for 18 years, I agree. I love everything about Texas except for the lack of public lands.
