We had a full size ford cargo van when I was a kid. Beanbags in the back, we stayed in place.

I'd look at a 2016-2021 Toyota Tundra in the CrewMax configuration and the 38 gallon fuel tank. The back seat is huge, the truck is reliable, and if you are shopping a Taco the low payload and towing of the Tundra will not be a shock/disappointment. I specifically bought a Tundra with the larger cab when I was in pursuit of a woman with a couple of kids as it is the perfect family truck. I only downsized to a double cab Taco when that pursuit ended and the Taco was a better fit for my single life needs/wants. The largest cab Tacoma will be very cramped for a family of 5.

    They locked em up?

We had to either leave em in the truck [and every truck had a rifle and/or shotgun] or keep the bolt open

I am doing it now. 12/5/3. It is tight for sure. I am coming from the world of larger vehicles. F250/F450/Suburban/Excursion etc.

I switched mainly to make it work on tighter trails and ease of use out in the wild. The larger vehicles often put me in trouble than we wanted. It wasn't always a case of follow the trails (apps) or by memory.

100 series Land Cruiser. Bought it new-ish (Demo) in 2003 and still own it today. All three boys when youngish fit in the rear seats with two cars seats and a booster seat (in the middle) with no issues. No issues without car seats either. Removed the third row to make room for More Stuff.

too late now! With 5 kids, I doubt you have time for boom-boom, so no worry of a 6th.

    cold winter nights say otherwise!

my dad's favorite history factoid was that 9 months after the chicago blizzard in 1979, there were a record number of births.

i'm sure some would be fine with a family of 5 in a tacoma. i hated my family of three in our tacoma.. ended up going full size truck and it was a much nicer experience.. hell a family of 5 may put you over the low payload capacity that a tacoma has.

Is this why you have a gun rack on the outside of the cab ... so your passengers are "ready to defend"?
