That article didn't really post anything of substance besides some quick "lots of these -insert vehicle model- are being sold, listed at above 200k on the ODO".

Lol, finding a low mileage, older, used Toyota is like trying to find a needle in a haystack if you ask me.

Seqouia was listed as well, even though it is a relatively newer Toyota model. Funky stats if you ask me.

Not really sure how much the "study" means. At the average milage quoted per year (seems low to me) using 200,000 miles it takes almost 15 years to get there...

Additionally, it appears the site is looking at used cars currently for sale not all cars on the road.

I guess knowing the full details may put a little more meaning in it but, it doesn't look overly meaningful.

the fact that GM dominated that study tells me it's very flawed.

I saw that article. It's hard to trust any of their 'studies'. In this article it claims no European cars are listed. A few days before that, I read another article of the most reliable vehicles, and they had a Mercedes listed as the best. The studies are only as good as the person doing them.

Just like consumer reports, once saying the tacoma was one of the best to buy, now not recommended simply because it's 'dated'. WTF. Dated is relative to the individual. I would rather have a 'dated' reliable vehicle, than a new style piece of junk.

How because it isn't a Toyota? "iSeeCars.com, a website that aggregates 30 million used car listings from all around the country, recently looked for all of the vehicles housed on its website from 1981-2010 that have more than 200,000 miles on the odometer in order to see which models are really going the distance for their owners. The findings, which list the 12 models with the highest percentage of 200,000-mile travelers, are quite interesting. "

Data over your opinion... I know many Toyota's can be very reliable (have multiple friends prove that) I also know GM has had long lasting reliable vehicles over the years based on first hand and second hand knowledge. Basically most any car that is taken care of and maintained can last, just like many "reliable" cars/trucks can be junk when neglected. There have been multiple Taco's on here that haven't cut the mustard just like many have easily ecplised the 200k mark.

This article just collected data from used car listings, like Joe D stated there might be more and it would be nice to know. But many many people (ranchers, farmers, construction workers ect) have proven GM trucks can last. Sure their "aesthetics quality" may have been laking up until recently but their drivetrains always have been some of the best.

I am very surprised the Tacoma isn't on there, even just based on percentage. If it is based on current for sale trucks then it makes sense, selling in lower numbers less are forsale. Then again a quick search of autotrader for currently forsale tacos with over 200k show over 50 nationwide. Silverado's, almost 300. Sounds like it is just a numbers game.

Either way am surprised more cars didn't make it either like a civic or something else japanese...

With the Toyota's it's the norm with others it's usually the exception. Of all the Toyota trucks I have owned most were sold with at least 250K

They had the same vehicle 3 times.

The problem is no one is selling their taco after they have 200k because it still works fine :D

Data or not, my opinion is based solely on experience. I've owned 2 GM's and my wife has owned 1. I'm a diesel technician and we take care of our vehicles. Not one of the GM's had a transmission last over 150k. Engines can last a while if taken care of, like any other vehicle. But the GM 1/2 ton truck/suv transmissions and rearends suck. I am sure some of the new stuff has been fine tuned and I know the heavier 3/4 and 1 ton stuff is strong, but i'll stick with Toyota. Not to be argumentative, I'm just not a GM fan anymore.

The Big Flaw in this study is it is only looking at Cars / Trucks on the lot for sale. You have to consider that Lots of high mileage cars and trucks are kept by the owner ( most of which are probably the original owner ).

IMO the study is garbage and only shows that a lot of high mileage GM products are on the lot for sale.

I think the numbers skew towards the domestics because they get used as work vehicles more often... Just a theory

x2 on the GM Trannys. Our fleet of 3/4 and 1 ton GM's seem to be constantly needing transmission work. I've noticed it's worse on the new models. All gassers by the way AND they are used for plowing, so there's that.

No offense, but how would you conduct a better study that could consistently sample vehicles not for sale? DMV data is restricted for the average person and unreliable since many states stop reporting mileage after x amount of years.

Most vehicles will make it to 200,000 miles. More important is how much $$$ it's going to take to get to that 200k...

Getting to 200,000 means nothing. What's more important is how much you have spent to get there.

The only way to do this would be to ask a very large sample size how much they estimate to have spend on maintenance on their vehicles above 200k.

This study shows nothing it could be taken the completely opposite way that GM makes shit vehicles that require so much extra cash to fix people drop them once they hit high mileage.

I didn't say that I had a better method. I only pointed out the Major Flaw in the method that they chose to use.

They misrepresented the study at best, or were just being deceptive on purpose. Regardless of the intent, the study is garbage at best.

The only good way to do it that I can think of would be with DMV Records, but that has flaws also as pointed out by you.

Just met another future TacomaWorld member. Has over 250,000 miles on his 2006 Metallic Gray Sport DC. Only problem he has had was a problem with his in dash radio/gps that was fixed under warranty. Sure is great hearing stories like this.

I think you can find a number of vehicles domestic and foreign that will make over 200k. My dad had a 2001 silverado with 325k on it before he accidentally totaled it. No transmission failure, no major engine problems or anything.
