Back in November, thought I was getting a good deal. Finance person person says $500 for life time oil changes.
    Im thinking Sweet deal.

after the paper work is signed
FP "Here put this in your glove box"
    ME "Awesome Thank you"

Since November I have been in for 2 oil changes, had great service.

    fast forward to this morning.
Take my truck in for an oil change, service advisor says "your deal only covers 2 oil changes per year" o_O

2 Hard lessons learned, read EVERYTHING & Don't trust ANYONE at the dealership, even if you are referred by family & friends. If the person is employed by a dealer think of them as a casino; they only want to get your money anyway they can.

On a good note, I will be going back to my trusted shop that actually gives a shit

    end of rant

The free Toyota 2 year service only does it at 10k miles to save Toyota $ so at 5k miles have it changed where ever you like keep receipts for warranty Purposes & at 10k miles have Toyota do it problem solved.

Yeah lifetime oil changes doesn’t mean anytime oil changes...unfortunately you bent yourself over on that one.

Something that costs only $500 yet takes 5 years for it to pay for itself would have been an immediate red flag. Its basically a hedge against future cost of said service. Unfortunately its costing you an additional oil change or more each year at an average of $50 give or take. Hopefully you didn't get suckered into the extended warranty as well.

They should have put at the top of the page in caps

COVERS EVERY OTHER OIL CHANGE FOR LIFE

Because in the end thats really what it is.

And I wonder what the small print says about what happens to the "life time" oil changes if you sell the truck?

I'd be pretty happy with that deal. Go April and October each year and never worry about that filter. Trusting them would be hard for me but not a bad deal.

A good rule of thumb when buying a vehicle is don't buy anything from the finance office. It is all garbage.

Same thing happened when my wife bought her RAV4. The deal she got was free services for the first two years. Now, when she goes (we still have a year left), they don't want to do them for free. We pulled out the sales receipt for the car, the salesman had hand-written "Free service x 2 years" on the receipt, and nowhere did it say how many it was limited to per year. My wife commutes 40 miles each way to work every day plus other travel, and can easily do three oil changes a year. We showed the receipt to the service manager and threatened to post on Facebook about the broken promises and lousy service if they didn't honor the deal. And if it doesn't specify what is included in the service, we get everything; filters, transmission, tire rotations, the works.

I hate dealers, and will stick it to them any chance I get. They'll sure bend you over whenever they can squeeze a buck out of you, and not lose any sleep over it.

I feel for you. Glad you are getting what you asked for and what you paid for. My only concern would be in getting free services from a disgruntled dealer that doesn't want to do the service work. Probably a good idea to document every single thing they do and then check it to make sure it was done right. So when they vindictively screw up (if they do) you can nail them on it.

In general, beware of dealers having to do work they don't want to do for free ... :)

Documenting work on a service charge that doesn't get done is fraud, and doing that or just shitty quality work will get them more than an ugly Facebook post. The service dept. at the local dealer does good work, they just didn't like that the salesman didn't put a limitation on what and how much. it ain't like it's gonna drive them under if they don't comply, there's plenty of others who get screwed and don't care or even know.

Ask for a refund or you'll post 1 star review and not recommend.

Worst case scenario, they say no and you copy and paste this post into google reviews.

My stealership offered lifetime oil changes, but I'll never go get them.

I got my tacoma certified pre-owned free oil changes for 3 years... they try to sell me on other stuff.. but i do most of the work myself... I have an appt to go tuesday for an oil change 45k service.. doing my front brakes myself (they were at 3mm last oil change) I can get Napa coated rotors, pads, and hardware for $209 (or less).... they can do the oil change and cabin filter...

Lesson learned and a reminder to everyone to read the small print. Even though pertinent information should be in BOLD print and stated up front. TWO FREE OIL CHANGES A YEAR FOR LIFE. Its so simple yet this would not fall under 'shady corporate tactics 101' so pertinent information like this gets filed under the small print ruling
