Are you seeing degraded fluid when you drain?
Does the bottom of your pan look like a gold prospectors sifting pan at each change?
Are you towing half the state of UTAH annually?

I ask this because it sounds like you are setting a record for most wasted synthetic ATF fluid and giving your local AMSOIL dealer a warm and fuzzy feeling when he sees you pull in.

For what it's worth, I have used Mobil 1 ATF in a RAV4 with the 4 speed auto, which calls for Toyota Type WS ATF. It is now up to 60,000 miles with no issues, after initial trans drain and fill at 15k, then 30k and 60k. My 09 Tacoma has the 4 speed transmission that calls for Type T-IV, which I also use Mobil 1 ATF in (and have nearly 120,000 miles on so far).

Thank you Crom for this, this should be a sticky as far as I'm concerned. Will help greatly if I ever end up doing the full flush

I noticed on Royal Purples site that their MAX ATF is not WS compatible. I inquired why. This was the reply:

Bottom line:, don't put that purple shit in your transmission!

    Thanks!

I would not do a flush on a new truck... Just a waste of money, IMO. But I would certainly check the fluid level. If it's low, choose a compatible fluid to add some. Easy.

Actually not. More like "Its fine, but if you want to swallow Toyota's policy hook, line and sinker, use WS."

I am sorry, but I don't agree with your interpretation. I read the same email reply as you and my take on it was: NOT RECOMMENDED!!! But if you want to take chances, go ahead! lol Seriously, why take the risk when there are so many other market alternatives that are compatible?

Because I read it as compatible, but since Toyota warranty says dont do it, we dont list it. Oh, and when you are out of warranty use it.
The only thing they said it was incompatible with is for CVT/Prius usage.

Where on earth did you get not recommended?

Yes it is, and I emailed and asked why, and that is the info I sent you.
I am not denying the fact that it is "not recommended", seeing is that was what I read earlier today and was the reason for me emailing them asking why.

But if that is all you want to go by, no problem.

I was providing more information on why it was "not recommended"

So should I go with Amsoil or Maxlife?
Is it worth the money difference?

It really doesn't matter. Choose either one. They both work!
