Thanks for all the help. I just downloaded the my verizon mobile app and it gives me my data usage......I am on the 3gb plan instead of the 10gb but think that will still be plenty.

Don't forget to check your settings in Pandora. As previously mentioned, the paid version has two levels of quality. You can choose the quality level and assess the tradeoffs of sound quality vs data burn.

I listen to Pandora almost 24/7 in high fidelity and though I don't get data alerts I get emails often stating 3000 songs this month and such ...

I use about 5.9 GBs a month on my phone and I'm always listening to Spotify when I am in the truck. I also drive about 1900 miles a month and use Google Maps often. One month, I did use 10.3GBs; but I also drove about 4k miles in the months and used Spotify and Google Maps.

Thank god I still grandfathered in my AT&T Unlimited Data.

On the iPhone you can just log into your myverizon app and check your usage. You can also go into settings-cellular and scroll down. The iPhone shows you your total GB usage over time, and breaks down the amount of data used for each app. At the very bottom you can reset the meters. I try to remember to do mine about the beginning of each billing cycle. You can easily see which apps are the biggest data hogs and adjust accordingly.

Even if it's the middle of the billing cycle, just check myverizon and if you're at 1.5gb on a 3 gb plan, then you know you have 1.5 left. So just reset your iPhone data meter and know that you have 1.5gb to go.

Most modern Smartphones have a built in ability to limit/restrict data usage if you go over user defined settings (in fact I think it's built into the Android OS now). And if you have the Verizon app on your phone (which you probably don't have a choice to delete anyhow) you can make settings changes so it will text message you when you go over user defined amounts of data.

Folks who are getting these massive bills simply aren't paying attention.

On Android, go to "Settings", "Data Usage". You can view entire device usage, set data limits, and see what apps are using the most.
