Verizon has been boasting about their new unlimited data $45/line plan and I was curious if anyone has signed up for it, more specifically if you were already a Verizon customer. I'm on a family plan with two other lines and a tablet, the phones run about $80/a piece per month. I'd love to save some money! Fill me in if you can.

    Hi @TacoNH

I just switched to the new Verizon Unlimited Data Plan over the weekend (well Friday evening). I previously had 2 lines (not shared). My wife had the Nationwide 450 minutes, 2GB Data and 500 text (unlimited to Verizon) plan and I had the Nationwide 450 minutes, grandfathered Unlimited data and Unlimited text plan.

I was paying $168.XX/month for both of those lines and my wife was coming VERY close to going over her 2GB/month data. I am currently paying $157.XX/month ($11.xx cheaper) for the new Verizon Unlimited Data plan. :bananadance:

Edit: We own our phones. So the $157.xx is just for the plan + taxes/fees.

Yes I have. Unlimited plan and the benefit for me is the personal hotspot so my kids can share my data. 20+ years at ATT shiathole and was determined to wait it out for their network to improve. It never did and just converted to Verizon a few weeks ago. Coverage is far superior to the aforementioned shiathole I was with. My single line and new phone is $112/month.

I've been in for a month and a half or so. $350/mo for 5 iPhones, unlimited data. Good coverage, no throttling. I'm happy.

Do they use the hotspot often?

Just an FYI -> Mobile hotspot/tethering reduced to 3G speeds after 10 GB/month per line

But at least they don't charge you extra for more than 10GB :)

After 22GB/month they will throttle you. Not sure if you get anywhere close to that with 5 phones.

From Verizon: On the new Verizon Plan Unlimited you get our fast LTE speeds. To ensure a quality experience for all customers, after 22 GB of data usage on a line during any billing cycle we may prioritize usage behind other customers during network congestion. This means your data connection could slow down.

Hm. Well, either I'm too old to know what throttles data feels like, or we don't get to that 22GB threshold.

    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The only time you will notice the throttling (slower speeds) is when loading videos. Games, Social Networking and email to name a few won't take a hit from the throttling)

    bkinatacoma I don't see a reply.. ???

That sounds like 22GB PER line. If so, then that's a hell of a lot of data!

Look inside the quote. He said, "They use it daily"

....your confusion now has me confused as well......

I took it as "Thanks for fixing that, Benz. Uptight individuals on this site would typically jump all over that." :notsure:

    Oh my. Thanks again benz.

And at the Accord driver - to be honest, yes you. But as long as you're not a maintenance queen, I'll take back what I said. :D And fyi...when you see this ...it means I'm being sarcastic. Had to explain that to another uptight individual from Maryland. Maybe it's a Maryland thing? Again..... And end with this -. Cool?

Ya, I can see that, too. Whatever. Question got answered, all is good!
    :stayontopic:

I still don't understand how Verizon is so far behind the "Unlimited Data" bandwagon. Data is fairly cheap, and all the other major providers have been offering unlimited data for a long time now. Ya, Verizon has the best coverage, but I couldn't do it for that price.

22 Gigs for the plan .. and it doesn't specifically say throttle .. it says they may slow your speeds if you're in a busy area (I'd say a town of 100k people or so).

For what it's worth I switched to the Verizon plan for 2 reasons, the AT&T plan doesn't let you tether, the VZW plan does for 10 Gigs, and 2, I took vzw for a 'test' drive, ran up 55 Gigs and no throttle. I've been on it for 3 months now averaging 70 Gigs per month and have not gotten throttled yet.

WOAH!!!! What do you do to use THAT much data!?!? Or are there multiple phones/users on the account?

I barely use 2GB/month. Granted, my Spotify playlists are set to download music over wifi, so that saves a lot of data.

I don't think we use over 10gigs between the three of us so we should be all set. I am not sure however if I own my phone yet now that they do that pay for it as you go deal.
