Had a crazy idea this evening. I recently put a camper shell on. I've got a single pane slider on bother the shell and the cab, but ya can't really fit a grown human through there very easily. Was wondering if anyone had come up with any kind of mod or conversion kit to make a solid piece of glass that would slide up and down, like on the Tundras. Or hell, even a bigger opening for the single pane slider would be nice.

there is a mod that was going around if you search that adds a motor for the slider. I do not recall if it was for 2nd and 3rd or just 3rd but pretty sure it was adapted for 2nd gens. It did not change the window size but did achieve part of this. If you ever replaced the window in theory you could try to find or custom order a different setup. The up and down likely would not work without a ton of work based on the setup in the cab.

I could have sworn somebody started a one off custom jobbo trying to cut and weld a Tundra or possibly a 4Runner rear slider into their cab but IIRC they had a flat bed and I don't think it would work with the stock bed on as you can't shorten the cab any due to the doors and the slider rear bulkhead lengthens the cab 1.5" or something.

Maybe we'll get it on the 4th gen along with the turbo diesel and solid front axle.

God, if only Toyota would import the Land Cruiser 79, they would destroy the truck market and that's why they're not allowed.

I can make the hole bigger, not sure about the sliding part though...

They would also have to pay the chicken tax. The $78,000AUD($60,000 in freedom dollars) would end up being $75k USD before sales tax for a stripped out work truck. Would you really go for a 70 series if it cost the same as a king Ranch F-250?

@Jpeg1900 there isn’t room in back wall of the stock cab to add a vertical sliding window.

Here is my truck with the seats and plastic bins removed. F9A748B4-DF9B-4F8C-84B4-548D3BE8C5AA.jpg

The vertical ribs are the same surface that you see from the outside when the bed is removed as you can see. CF1F67F3-75AC-4972-B736-701445A1D1B8.jpg

You would need custom glass, a custom pocket for it to retract to, and all the mechanism to retract it would have to be custom fit.

If you want to move between the cab and the bed the most reasonable option would be a custom rear glass with a dual slider. You could probably get a decent size hole with two smaller sliders that each moved.
