Sorry for posting so many noob threads here, but I have a new annoyance. I just installed new ome leaf springs, shackles and u-bolts and am now getting this really loud clunk when flexing the suspension. Obviously my first thought was that is has something to do with the stuff I just installed, but I check everything and it looks fine. The odd thing is, it sounds like it changes where it’s coming from, sometimes it sounds like its coming from the driveline, sometimes front suspension and sometimes rear, and I can feel it in my feet. I know it’s going to be a hard thing to chase down, but I’ve had a lot of my issues solved on this forum so why not try. Here is some video of the clunk. Sorry about the other rattling noises.

A very good place to look. Get under there and give it a shake.

Does your truck have more than 2" of new lift? How immediately did it start up after installation?

Those 2 second videos weren't super helpful, lol. Also a lot of background noise, and we can't tell where it's coming from anyway.

When *precisely* does it make the clunk? Is that consistent? Like only when the right rear flexes up under power, only when turning left and inside corner hits a bump... that sort of thing...

Years ago, I had what I *thought* was a suspension clunk on acceleration from a stop. Changed almost everything, control arm bushings, ball joints, shocks, even switched drivelines with a friend. It turned out to be the tube of my K&N intake clunking on the heat shield, lol...

Tried the best I could. Better than no videos at all. That’s the thing that’s so weird it’s not very constant. The best way for me to recreate it is to go over a good sized bump sideways, at any speed really. Sometimes it sounds like it’s coming from the front, sometimes the back. Very frustrating.

The lift got about an inch and a half taller I’d say.

    Pretty immediately?

I have the same thing happening to my truck. Installed the OME lift (2.5 inch) about 2 months ago, but the noise just started last week. I haven't started to investigate yet, but just like the OP I feel it in the floor. To me it sounds like something is in a bind and it's popping loose. It's happens randomly. I even got it to do it once by rocking the truck side to side in the driveway.

Could be the poly bushings that most people install with the dakars. I had to put a new bushing in my oem spring pack, so I went with poly. Stupid thing would pop and creak like crazy, put an oem rubber one in there and its silent.

I dont know if a rubber oem bushing will fit in the dakars though.

Yep exactly. Sounds like a pop or a bind.

I do not have the poly bushings, for that specific reason. Heard people say that their pretty noisy. I just went with the regular ones.

What exactly am I looking for with the carrier bearing? Am I looking for play when I shake it? Or listening for a noise? Sorry still kinda new to all of this.

Good choice! My next choice after I recheck torque on everything would be the slip yoke binding.

When you did the final torque on the rear suspension did you make sure that the truck was on the ground or suspension was loaded for ride height before it was torqued down? If not, that is probably where the bind is coming from.

How about the brackets that are riveted on the leaf springs to keep the leafs lined up, are any of those rubbing on those?

Grease all joints on your drive shaft. Just got rid of clunks and a weird whistle by putting new grease into every Zerk

I’ve thought about that. I’m going to cover those in wd-40 to see if it stops it.
