So after some naysayers insinuated that those who said they were getting good mileage must be lying, I paid special attention at my last three fill ups and hand calculated my mileage. My MPG were 26.1, 26.3 and 26.9, no towing or heavy loads. My MPG have always been near or above rated on most of my vehicles and I attribute that to driving style (get up to speed quickly, studies show that's more efficient than gradually gaining speed, and anticipate traffic and lights ahead and coast down rather than foot on gas or brake all the time) and my normal driving areas. I'm usually 50% time on a 60 mph highway and 50% time in city. But though my city has lots of traffic, it usually flows freely and you usually only sit at a light for one or two cycles. So, when used for non hauling it is possible to get very good mileage. Oh, and I've been running premium gas.

Good for you but it won't be long before you will notice that MPG will be down.

Because you have noticed that on your and many other's high mileage 2.4 turbo engine? Or are you just being negative and hoping?

Great. Enjoy that relic. But my post was about MPG not reliability. Perhaps a reading comprehension course would be of benefit. The 2.4 turbo may turn out to be just as "bomb proof". We'll have to wait and see.

Thats amazing MPG. I also average better than most with my 3rd gen (~21.5ish March-November in mixed driving; dont bother calculating in winter) and can get 25 on flat terrain and neutral winds. I think this blocky trucks, even more than most cars, are sensitive to driving habits and speed.

I have about 1600 miles on mine. The MPG shows 20.8 for all city stop and go driving to work. The afternoon return is pretty backed up and congested. It tracked my last fill up and the calculated MPG was exactly what was on the display. Pretty impressive.

They are all jealous, jaded, envious because they can’t have the 4th gen. There is absolutely no reason to talk trash on a 4th gen forum from a 3rd gen owner….

So far I'm averaging 24 mpg in my manual SR, it may creep up slightly since i added a tonneau cover but it is what it is.
Not upset about it being high or low, more upset at the size of the gas tank and the insane reserve level Toyota decided to choose!

Not here to talk trash, as I mentioned before you're making assumptions there, most of us are not the least bit jealous, jaded or envious, and can easily get one (you are acting like a mid size truck is somehow unattainable and some rare expensive sports car, come on dude) just here to be informed as to whether we ever move to one, etc. Comments like these don't really help but feed the "trolls" and make you look childish.

I think the testing the government makes them do now really favors 40-60mph cruising

I suspect my 4.0 would do 18 following behind you

Good for you and welcome to the hyper miler club.

I get 17 and during the winter with 240lbs of sand in the bed I got 15. I am going for the low mileage club. Then again I didn't buy a truck for good MPG's.

What do I look like their therapist? Regardless are you that insecure with your purchase that a comment or any criticism about your truck forces you to respond as such? WGAF dude, and its a forum they are all like this. It isn't some class warfare haves and have nots, its a Tacoma forum.

No I am not being negative. Just telling you the facts. It happens to all vehicles depending on the condition. For example, you see "20 MPG" on window sticker, then you go out on the road, much later, you end up getting 15 MPG or something like that. You won't get 26 MPG everyday for your time with that taco.

    No. Stating the facts.

Not jealous at all. I am good with my 3rd gen. Not getting new one til much later.. Besides, I don't care about MPG in mine which I use the taco for off road uses. I used it for construction for years but not anymore.
