Hey, I just got my 2017 6-speed manual TRD OR and have about 650 miles on it so far. Over the past two mornings (about 30 degrees at night) my clutch pedal was extremely slow on the release, to the point where my foot would come off the pedal and and the pedal would finally jump back to the resting position. I was curious if anyone else had this issue?? After parking it in my parking garage at work it seems to function just fine in the evenings on the way back home so I am wondering if this is just a cold issue from overnight? Either way on a brand new truck that should not be an issue. Thanks!!

Yes ... due to cold... I had it at the beginning of the winter season this year a few times when temps were around 20F... last winter nadda... It's a known issue and there's a TSB for it on the Gen2 trucks. I would tell your dealer if it keeps doing it. I don't get it when it's that warm (30F), and your foot coming off the pedal is not a good sign.

I'd let the dealer know.. they won't be able to replicate it that easily so they have it on record in case you have a clutch master cylinder failure later on.. that's actually a sign of premature clutch master cylinder failure.

There is a TSB on 2nd Gens for the squeak or creak in the pedal, not for slow moving.

Oh yeah that's right... they replace the clutch parts for noise and when it's actually failing... perfectly normal??

It seems most guys that have had the parts replaced have the squeak creak sound comeback again. I lubed all the pivot points with disc brake grease and it has been silent.

Mine does the same thing when the temp drops below about -10C. Common complaint with the M/T.

Same creak in the 3rd gen trucks. By looking at that 2nd gen TSB, the assy looks pretty much the same. Lube. Silent. Creaks again, more lube. Silent again.

My 08 did it too and l am expecting my 17 will too but l will use the disc brake grease again rather than let the dealer mess with it.

Hydraulic clutches just do this sometimes when it's cold. They also engage weird when it's cold.

It's normal, same thing w/ my 5-spd manual.
At least tacomas don't get subaru'esque clutch chatter when it's cold/humid out...

My 15 suffers from this if its sits for a few days in the cold but my 08 did not. On the 2008 the clutch shared the brake master cylinder reservoir whereas the 15 has a seperate reservoir for the clutch out on the fender exposing it to more extreme temperature.

Damn Toyota, called the dealer and the service adviser said that he had never heard of this happening and they want to keep my car overnight to see if the problem happens in the morning.

The 3rd gen V6 MT is the same as your 15. Separate reservoir on the driver's side inner fender. I'm more inclined to think the slave cylinder is causing the sluggish pedal release at low temps, maybe the seals/o-rings?

interested to hear if anything comes from this. Mine does this, as does a lot of people's if you browse through the manual trans community thread. It's never caused an issue for me, just annoying when first getting in on a cold day. If there was a fix for this though, I might look into it also.

I tried lubing the shaft/boot on the cylinder attached to the pedal under the dash, no change. I may try the same thing on the slave cylinder once I find it under the truck .

Anyone have a bit of clutch shudder midway through the pedal range at lower rpm? I'm thinking it's normal, it's only a certain spot/RPM that I can avoid if I'm paying attention, but I don't remember the clutch shuddering at all on my '02.

Mine is slow when it gets really cold, but haven't noticed it much until it gets down to about 10*F or lower. Once the engine warms up it always goes away after a few miles of driving.

Is the clutch shuddering or is the engine bogging? What are you calling low rpm, my guess is what you are feeling is the engine bogging.

It's definitely shudder/chatter. Distinctly different than the odd electronically limited engine bog/surge when the clutch is totally out and you hit the gas at too low of RPMs.

No trouble with mine. The clutch is really smooth. However, my other truck has an SM 465.

I'll find out tomorrow if mine is a piece of shit, too... it will be the first day below freezing.

Subscribed, mine does this when low 30's and lower but no shudder or anything. Once warm completely normal just only on first cold start.
