1999 Prerunner single cab. With a BO7A rear end
All kinds 3 inch body lift/2 1/2 suspension lift. 31/11 1/2/15 tires All work done by myself for years. The only work performed by mechanic was fuel pumps. I also have a 90 Mustang 350 hp and I can never understand how come my Tacoma gets more respect Just got a 99 Jeep TJ that I rebuilt, and painted in the garage
On a cold start I have to turn the key, and it cranks and cranks. Then it slowly comes up to speed and catches up like it just got gas. Pressure is good though with a new pump. My friend saya a burned valve would do this. He says it gets hot and expands so it runs. Whats the consensus on the valve. I'l check in tomorrow after work to the Tacomaworld crew

Only one valve might cause a miss . many might cause long crank times.

Why did you install a new fuel pump?

Hot starts no problem just when it sits long enough to get cold.

When it does run does the idle speed up like it should on a cold engine??

Depending on your answers Coolant temp sensor ! #2 fuel pressure bleeds off with enough time.

Both could cause long crank times.

Good call on the Coolant temp sensor. I had the on/off coolant control valve on the firewall go bad and drip on that sensor for quite a while so I believe that sensor certainly could be faulty. I will get one soon. Its in a very tough place on the very back of the manifold

Thanks Bivouac. Great call. The wire connector on the very back of my head broken so after fighting this problem for months this morning it started right up.

When you was having this issue once it was warmed up did it start right up even with the bad coolant temp sensor? Did it throw a check engine light? I have the same thing going on with my truck kind of. Did your temperature gauge still work?

Your gauge sending unit and the coolant temp sensor are two very different things!!

The only real thing in common they are both in the coolant .

I wasn't 100% sure if the coolent temp sensor would screw with the sending unit also. My sending unit is fine as my Guage works normal just wanted to make sure they didn't work with each other at all
