So here are pictures with the bike mounted. It sits up considerably higher than it used to but not ridiculously high. The bike's back wheel is against the tailgate. I prefer this to having the bike sit sideways. I reached highway speeds with no issues where the rail mounts to the tonneau cover.

I use Kuat Dirtbag 15mm thru axle mounts on my cover
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/281898769243?ul_noapp=true&chn=ps&lpid=82

I only have 2 mounted. If you alternate them one facing one way, turn the next one, and so on you can get 4 bikes mounted so you have enough handlebar clearance.

I run a cable lock on the rear D-Rings through the rear tire, frame, and front tire which is secured to the rear of the bike for added security (ill post a picture tonight)

I run one of these when I need to haul something that has a standard skewer

Found a pic online of what I'm planning on doing - and adding a loadwarrior w/tire mount between two Yakima Frontloader bike mounts.

I like that setup much better. Once the snow melts, I'll have to try something similar!

Truckcoversusa for the win! Easy to take bikes on and off w/out taking off the front tire. Also whole rack comes off in a few minutes. The cover is stout and works like a champ!

So Awesome! This is actually the setup I'm saving up for. I see your bars are pretty wide, how wide did you go with? Hoping to not go past the sides of the car and still fit 4 bikes up top

If you plan on biking a lot you might not want the tonneau cover, especially if you're carrying more than one bike. Save your money and maybe find something custom for your purpose. The cover is removeable - it has one big bolt on it. It's a little heavy for a guy with a bad arm (me) but you can take it off completely and maybe use a floor mount or something.

Truckcoversusa comes from the factory with Yakima tracks installed as an extra charge. From there you can use can design the Yakima rack to your desire.

I got the second widest bar that Yakima sells and cut them to the length I wanted, which is just slightly under the width of the truck. I know the pic makes it look wider than the truck. I'd be easy to fit four bikes. Totally worth saving up for!

Thank you, perhaps I am just lazy, but I did not want to have to remove the cover every time I transport the bikes....it works for me and my needs.

Was wondering how you attached the rack to the bed cover. did you have to buy a metal rod then attache the rack piece to that or did you just drill holes for the racks right to the bed cover frame? I just bought a 2018 Tacoma TRD Sport short bed and this is the only idea that i've see that might work for my mt bike without having it ride on top of the cover.

Yes, I'm also curious on how this was attached to the tonneau cover. I've got Rocky Mounts "lowball" and am in the market for a tonneau cover (Bakflip MX4 most likely $$)

TruckCoversUSA.... Pricier but man it's so worth it! So functional, easy retraction, very secure, dry, lockable and customizable with those yakima tracks prewelded... :)

As I said, I've already got the rocky mounts. I'm not wanting or needing a new solution for the bike mount. I'm in the market for a tonneau and want to utilize what I've already got. (mlm682577) His set up.

Could you mount the rocky's right to the cover and not use the front bed rail? I've been thinking about doing that as a backup to my tailgate pad.
