I bought my 2007 OR right around this time last year, It's my first truck and has been the most fun/reliable vehicle
banged around with a hammer before I got it and all seemed fine. Just now I was under it prepping it to paint the frame and discovered this :(. I guess I wasn't whacking hard enough.

The rust wasn't bad at all on 90% of the frame with most of the factory coating still intact.

That sucks, I think 2nd gens only have a 12 year warranty on the frame replacement (1st gens had 15).

Buy yourself a cheap welder, an angle grinder with a cut-off wheel, some plate steel and start patching.
The steel around it really doesn't look too bad. How does the rest of the frame look?

Thanks for the suggestion I'll definitely consider doing that route. The rest of the frame is in pretty nice condition, still has the factory coating. Worst spots being some surface rust on the frame mounts and the nearby welds

Sorry to see that. Looks like it runs along the bottom some. Do a good inspection and see if there are any possible options to save it, but most likely needs a frame

honestly, if it's just the one spot, that's really not so bad. perfectly repairable.

i got into the tacoma because my ranger tired me out. it was specifically when the front crossmember got so paper thin i could stick my fingers through it 1/4" from the bushings that held the lower a-arms...

this was just the bed, but the entire frame looked like that front bed section. i routinely found flakes of rust under the truck wherever i parked. the only thing clean under there was the parts i replaced...

Yea I wouldn't have thought the salt would be as bad because it's cold 8 months of the year and they mostly put gravel down.

I appreciate the advice and the offer. This site has been invaluable.I'll be getting some quotes this week once I know the full extent of it.

It does seem common from Canada.
Maybe whoever made the rule was just like, "Look. I know WA uses sand to prevent corrosion on their precious cars. And CO uses magnesium chloride which is less corrosive than salt. But let's pick to use the most corrosive shit we possibly can."

    I love salt trucks.
The few times you actually need them, they're not there.
When you don't need them at all, they're there. Usually blocking the road.
Want to have a bit of fun and slide around under control while still having a high ceiling of grip due to tires? Too bad, can't. Salt truck came.
