Ok, so about a week ago my 4 door 2001 tacoma pre runner just started unlocking itself, constanly. To clarify, I'll be driving down the road, and the doors (all 4) just start unlocking, over and over and over again. Until today it would only do it for about a minute and stop, but today it did it the whole way to work (45 minutes). I thought it was coming from the driver side door unlock switch, so while I was driving, I just popped off the door armrest cover (the one that has the windoww and lock switches) and unplugged the wireing harness that went into the back of it. THis did nothing, it continued to do it the whole way to work. I have not found anything like this on the forums yet so I was wondering if anyone has experienced anything like this or if they have any ideas? All input is appreiciated. Thank you.

    Precedent: I'm guessing

Sounds like a short or something. Follow the wires from switches in the armrest and I believe they go behind the kick panels (for both the driver and passenger side). See if anything looks funky back there :notsure:

yeah it REALLY does sound like a short. I'm hoping though, before I start tearing into wiring looms and taking my truck apart that there may be a power door lock relay somewhere that I could check out first?

Power side is shorted to ground. Probably where it goes through the metal, like at the edge of the door or into the cab. As the wire touches metal, it shorts, clicking the lock.

Check for where the wires go into the front of the door shell. That's the most likely spot. Grommet is most likely either gone or worn through.

I've got the same situation. Mine only does it once every couple of months. It also does when the truck is parked and not running.

I would pull the rubber boot out where the wire goes into the driver door. Check the wires for wear (shorting). I've seen this on numerous Jeep Grand Cherokees.

Over time, the wires would split and short out causing all kinds of weird issues.

I've got a similar issue, not so much repeatedly while driving but whenever I hit lock (on the button) the door locks pop right back up to unlock. I think for me it might be door jamb switch, but haven't had the time to fully investigate yet. If you find the problem/fix post it up!

My daughter's 4runner had the same problem. After replacing the fuse block, don't solve the problem. I pulled driver side door panel, unplugged wires going from control panel to door lock, problem solved. Only negative you can't put key in driver's side lock and unlock all of the doors.

Ok, so I did try to disconnect the door lock button from underneath the door panel where it plugs in at. That didn't do anything. I tried ya'lls suggestions and nothing worked. The other day while I was driving, the constant unlocking was driving me nuts so I pulled the fuse cover from under the steering wheel and wiggled the wire loom coming off the back of it and instantly stopped and has not done it once since......so it seems I have at least located the source of the issue.

Can you still unlock all of the doors using the key (drivers side door)?

Yes. Everything works like the day it rolled off the lot.

Then the wire I'm talking about is not unplugged. Once unplugged you lose that function. I may have a picture, checking...here's my post from a 4 runner site.

"Found the problem. The are 3 wires that run to the drivers side lock. (When you unlock the door, once the driver side goes up, second time they all go up.) Disconnected the lead off the lock set and the ghost unlocking stopped. You now have to open the door and hit the unlock switch on the window/lock control panel to unlock all of the doors. I can't find the replacement part on line and may not bother."
